Kirkburton Junior Football Club will shortly take on the challenge of running the equivalent mileage of Land's End to John o' Groats - at total of 874 miles. Kids from all age groups, along with coaches and parents, will take on the challenge to raise money for one of its youngest members - Alfie Fagan.
Alfie is just 5 years old and recently started playing at the club as part of our under 5 team. Alfie recently fell ill and after undergoing some tests, his family have tragically learned that Alfie
has leukaemia and is now undergoing chemotherapy. He’s wiped out at the moment but is fighting this with everything he has got.
As a club , we were devastated to hear the news and were keen to help Alfie and his family in anyway we could. This is where the idea for our challenge came in. Alfie is currently undergoing treatment so is frequently at hospital with his parents Mark and Sarah and sister Emily by his side. This puts added financial strain on the family which we hope we can help with in some small way.
Alfie’s Dad, Mark Fagan, will be known to many in the local area and to Huddersfield town fans in particular- Mark was previously the Head of first team operations from 2016 - 2020 when town were successfully promoted to the Premier League.
As a junior football club, we are in the final stages of coordinating an event where lads from all age groups will complete their mileage challenge. We also plan to do a ‘takeover’ at the Huddersfield Junior Parkrun where we’ll get as many of our kids running the distance in their club colours and showing their support for Alfie.
