Sight for Alex White

Alex White is a well-known young man in the Sherrills Ford community of ours. Alex was born September 1995 with cerebral palsy and epilepsy and depends on his parents for 100% of his care.  Even though Alex has physical limitations he has a real zest for life and is always in a good mood. He has never questioned why he was born the way he was, he truly loves the life he has. His parents have always encouraged him to do as many things as a kid enjoys doing. His first love is flying and will ride in as many airplanes as he can. The wilder the ride the better for Alex! Alex also enjoys NASCAR, driving his gator, hunting with his dad, playing video games and being involved in his church. 

 Alex has recently been presented with another battle in his life. About 6 weeks ago he began to notice he was having a problem seeing the television. Alex alerted his mom and she had him into the eye doctor. He was diagnosed with a disease called Kerataconus that leads to blindness.  The doctors told the family that there was no cure for this disease in the United States and to do their own research.  With the aggressive act of Lee and Gloria they located a doctor in Beverly Hills, California performing a procedure called Holcomb 3CR and this has a high success rate of stopping this disease and restoring Alex’s sight.  Unfortunately this procedure is not FDA approved therefore health insurance would not cover the surgery.  Alex’s family did not stop because of the price; they took out a medical loan to get this procedure done as quickly as possible. Alex was losing his vision each and every day.
