Alex's Mt Everest Challenge

Donation protected

Hi,

I need your help.

My name is Alex Flynn and I’m climbing Mount Everest; It’s worth mentioning though, I have Parkinson's disease.

I was diagnosed in 2008 when I was only 36 years old and since then my life’s goal is to raise awareness of and money for Parkinson's. It started out by undertaking a set of challenges called 10MillionMetres and became so much more. Information on what I’ve achieved can be found on my website www.alexflynn.co.uk.

None of it has been easy. Because for example, I find it hard to turn over in bed and I'm increasingly finding it difficult to get dressed on my own. Sometimes I walk strangely, eating can be interesting, and I've had several operations to remove food stuck in my throat as I've had difficulty swallowing. I no longer type. I must use voice dictation and find it difficult to sleep, but when I do, I have night terrors.

Yet I’m going to do 4 magnificent feats that include climbing and summiting Mount Everest to help others like me and to stop others having to experience Parkinson’s.

In order to do this, I need your assistance. I have to cover the costs of climbing the mountains, and I’m looking to raise £ 150,000. I have received some donations, but I still need more help.

Because I need to acclimatise via three pre Everest climbs to show I have gained experience at altitude. If you help me, I will climb:

Mt Blanc (September 2021);

Mt Mera Peak (October 2021); and

Mt Himlung (November 2021).

Each will be a challenge before climbing the behemoth that is Mount Everest in April 2022.

I am determined to do this not just for myself in order to prove we can go beyond that which we think is possible but for all the others that suffer with Parkinson's, other neurological diseases and the associated side effects. To prove that disability is no disadvantage and we can all be extraordinary!

Please come with me on this journey as that is what your donation will do. Each climb will be filmed and everyone who donates will get a credit on the film and the top 10 donations will also get a free keynote speech from me. Every donation counts however large or small.

Together, let’s leave the stigma of this debilitating disease on top of Mount Everest!

Please feel free to share this with your friends and contacts, as, ultimately, the dream is that one day people will say that they used to have Parkinson’s!

Thanks and #KeepMoving
