Alex's Top Surgery and Post-Op Care

I'm Alex Salazar. I'm also a transman working to get my top surgery. You would think top surgery is convered by insurance carriers, but it normally isn't. Infact, insurances will exclude "trans care" all together so most of my medical care is paid out of pocket. So I've been saving and I've have a decent amount ready to go! I know I can make this happen.
I don't want to be fifty without getting my chest fixed. I don't want to spend another five years binding daily -which is like having your chest crushed. People are constantly doing the checklist on you to see which gender you are. I'm tired of feeling like my body doesn't fully belong to me. I pay for my HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy) on my own. I am self-insuranced, but like I said UHC has a "transcare" exclusion. I've looked for a "trans-friendly" policy, but the only ones I could find are Employer policies who request it for their staff.
I am very blessed compared to some. I don't have to travel for my surgery, I will have it right here in Kansas City at Truman Medical Center. Since I live about 5 minutes away, the doctor has agreed to let me go home that same day to avoid the costs of staying overnight. And the recovery from the procedure will put me out of my day job for 2-4 weeks. Luckily, I work on a computer so I am hoping I can get back to work in a week or less and work sitting up.
I've set the campaign amount at $3k to hopefully cover my remaining costs but especially my recovery time. In the event that the goal is reached and I've over estimated the overall costs, I'll donate any excess I receive to someone else's top surgery fund.
