Alexis Roberts Fire Damage

Donation protected
As many of you know, on Monday, January 8, 2018, a fire destroyed the home that my niece Alexis and her roommates Tonia and Corey were living in, in Minneapolis, MN.

Along with many of their possessions, the fire took the lives of Corey’s beloved dog Dorito and Tonia’s beloved cat Pomegranate, and Lexi’s tank full of fish.   Our hearts are broken for the trauma that has been experienced by these amazing individuals and the losses that they have endured at this young age.

We have been approached by many who have asked about setting up a fund for Lex.  The truth is, she wanted to know that her roommates would be taken care of first (see information below), as they took the biggest hits, and because she had a sentimental attachment to her smoke damaged possessions and didn’t want to replace them.  Who knew that restoring them would be so time consuming and incredibly expensive?!  Abby, Thom, Faith, Bill, Caigen, Carole, and many others have worked tirelessly to restore these things all week, and are now facing the reality that this job is beyond them.  There’s the antique dresser that Lexi rescued last year and spent the entire summer refinishing, her collection of treasured books, her antique trunk, her antique plant pots… all of her clothing...   I am hoping that our village of friends and family will help us to raise money so that we can save Lexi’s treasures with professional restoration.

In addition Lex will need help to replace the items that were completely destroyed by the fire including: a dog kennel for Sassy, a new bed (the one that was destroyed was brand new and a special gift from her great grandma), bedding, towels, a couch, pots and pans, a winter jacket, hair dryer, dishes, silverware, rug, coffee table, and a trash can.

If you are able to help Lexi out, I know that she would appreciate it more than words.

What’s happening with her roomates:

A Go-Fund-Me was set up for Corey immediately, as he literally lost everything except the clothes that he was wearing. Thanks to the generosity of so many individuals, the fundraising goal was surpassed!!  The link to Corey’s fund is below if you would like to support him:

A Go-Fund-Me was set up for Tonia the following day, as smoke damage made her belongings unsalvageable.  She could still use a boost to get her to her goal.  The link to Tonia’s fund is below if you would like to donate to her:
