Alexis Goes Worldwide

As an African-American woman, since the early stages of my life I have always wanted to find more about my roots and where I descend from. The best way to do that is to understand Africa as both a community and a culture.  I am a minority student achieving academic excellence at the illustrious Spelman College. This Summer, I have been awarded the opportunity to travel abroad to Ghana. Through Spelman's Intercultural Engagement Program I will go abroad and study Africa's culture broadening my horizons. Traveling to Africa, I hope to gain cultural awareness, and engage in community development to better understand my cultural heritage.
