Hit and Run medical fund

On July 9th my son, Alex, was on an evening mountain bike ride on shoreline trail above the University of Utah. Just after 7:30 pm another rider came down the trail at a high rate of speed going to fast to stop or get out of the way. The rider hit Alex head-on then proceeded to leave the scene without any regard for Alex's obvious injuries. After a long and painful self-evacuation, Alex was able to make it to the hospital on his own. The result was fractured teeth and severe facial trauma.

Although Alex had Affordable Care health insurance, it did not cover a large portion of the emergency and follow-up care. His teeth were knocked into his mouth and the doctors had to literally be put back them back into his gums. This was an excruciating procedure and I was told it was a good thing I (his mom) was not there to hear the screams of pain. His other teeth were jammed into his lip and stuck… this required plastic surgery to put it all back together. Luckily his Adams Apple/Larynx were spared but very sore for a long time. He's had several follow-up visits and we are thrilled to report that the Doctors were able to save his teeth. He's very lucky in that regard. His lip is healing nicely and gums are starting to grow back.

As most of you know, Alex is an EMT with Summit County Ambulance. He is also Ski Patrol at Park City Resort. Helping others in need runs in his blood. He is currently attending the University of Utah to complete his degree in Emergency Management and is excited to continue his career serving others in emergencies.

While Alex is a full time student and working two jobs, his ability to pay for these additional bills is very difficult. We are asking for donations to his medical bills in order to keep Alex on track with school and to keep him moving toward his goal. We thank you for your support.
