Alexandra's Immunotherapy fundraiser

First of all I’d just like to say thank you for reading our story.

I have set up this page on behalf of my 26 year old sister Alexandra, she has been fighting her battle against cervical cancer since June 2018.  In that time she has been through a lot of treatment, chemoradiotherapy, brachytherapy at Liverpool and London.  After the brachytherapy at London an MRI scan showed that the tumour had shown a partial response to the treatment but unfortunately while waiting on a PET scan to determine whether what was left was persistent disease or scar tissue the tumour had started to grow back.  At one point the doctors thought they might be able to operate but a further MRI Scan showed that the tumour was touching on the pelvic wall and was inoperable.  It was heart breaking especially considering that Alexandra had got herself all geared up for it.  She had practiced with a stoma bag as she had been told that they would have to remove part of her bowel so to be then told I’m sorry but it is not operable was just awful.  Following that news Alexandra started another round of chemotherapy this time it was a combination of 3 drugs and she has suffered massively with side effects and numerous trips to A&E for all different types of reasons, there has been hardly any let up for her in all this time and it has affected her normal life so badly. She now has a wheelchair to get around in for when the pain gets too much that she can barely walk. The latest scan showed the current chemo is keeping the tumour stable but it has not shrunk as was the hope.

Alexandra has so many reasons to keep fighting this terrible disease nothing more so than her daughter Ella who is only 9 and she is a single parent to. We have a big family and the thought of her not being here with us for years to come doesn’t bare thinking about.  I personally don’t know what I would do without her.  The reason for setting up the page is because recently Alexandra’s consultant applied to the government to fund a type of immunotherapy that may be the answer for her but unfortunately as seems to be the case since this all began we got the devastating news that the answer was no and they wont release the funds. Again it was awful to hear this when the consultant had high hopes for this treatment being the right one for her.

Immunotherapy is a therapy that boosts your immune system to help it recognize and fight cancer cells.

We want to save her life and believe that this is the best chance for her at this moment in time. The only option we are now left with is to try and fundraise to pay for Alexandra to receive the treatment privately which is of course going to be costly. On the NHS it would be roughly £63,500, that is for a year of treatments which would be given every 3 weeks. We desperately want to get her this treatment and give her the best fighting chance against this truly awful disease.  Any help you can give no matter how big or small will be truly appreciated and gratefully received.

Any money raised that is not used for Alexandra's treatment will be donated to Children with Cancer UK, the same charity Alexandra raised money for when she shaved her hair in June this year.

Thank you, Nicola
