Our goal is to help transform the lives, change attitudes and create a society that works for autistic people. Our mission is to change attitudes by improving public understanding of autism and helping businesses, local authorities and government to provide more autism-friendly spaces, deliver better services and improve laws.
Autistic people face inequality, misunderstanding and isolation. The National Autistic Society and our supporters campaign to protect the rights and interests of autistic people and their families. In 1965, we set up the world's first autism-specific school. We currently have seven specialist schools.
In 1991, we set up our first diagnosis service and now diagnose over 190 people a year.
In 2009, we successfully campaigned for the Government to introduce an Autism Act in England.
