Alex McBratney is 18-years-old and is the 3rd of 6 children. He enjoys the outdoors, taking care of animals, regularly attends church services, and is involved with various aspects of church functions. In his spare time, he likes to hike, camp, and spend time with his family and friends.
He just started his college career at Cal Poly SLO University this Fall. His major is Animal Science with the intentions of pursuing a Veterinarian career. One week into his first quarter, he began experiencing physiological symptoms of difficulty breathing along flu like symptoms. As he was looking forward towards having the "college experience", life drastically changed for him.
Alex was admitted to a local hospital, close to his school, on September 27, 2018, where he was diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure. On September 30, 2018, he was transferred by ambulance to UCLA Heart Transplant Medical Center where he is currently being treated.
His heart is currently functioning at a 10% ejection fraction. There are other peripheral issues (blood clot in the lung and enlarged lymph node) which appear to be caused by his poor heart function and also affecting his kidneys.
The donations received will help offset medical expenses in conjunction with other expenses incurred due to the far proximity of the hospital from his family's home.
All excess funds raised will be given to heart disease research programs to help save others that are suffering from cardiovascular disease.
