A congenital heart defect was found in our seemingly perfectly healthy newborn daughter, Aleph Genevieve. The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) recommended that she get heart surgery in two months. We immediately sought a second opinion at Boston Children's Hospital, and they confirmed that she does have a heart defect but that she is showing very few symptoms and is very healthy (breathing normal, gaining weight, eating, sleeping, going through diapers, skin color, no abnormal sweating and normal temperament). They recommend we do not do heart surgery so soon and instead keep an eye on her for the next 7 to 9 months. The doctors at Boston think that between 7 and 9 months is the best time to do the surgery. As of right now, we have follow up appointments at Boston Children's Hospital every two weeks as we monitor her condition and provide treatments. We are also seeking alternative options at CHOP but as of now they are still adamant about doing the surgery more immediately.

Many friends have asked us how they can help. Prayers and blessings are always welcome. However, if you wish to help us alleviate part of the financial burden, we are open hearted, open minded and appreciative.

Funds
These funds will help us pay for the hospital bills and costs that are not covered by our insurance. It would also cover some of the traveling expenses back and forth to Boston. Boston is a 7.5 hour drive away, so we will need to stay in a hotel at least one night every 2 weeks. Depending on testing we might need to stay over for 2 nights. There are also a number of tolls we have to pay each way, plus gas.
