Alene Marr's fight to over come PML

Progressive Multifocal Leukoencephalopathy otherwise known as PML is a rare and aggressive viral disease that affects the central nervous system. Cells that make myelin are attacked by the virus. PML is a life-threatening condition if it goes untreated. It is caused by an infection called the JC virus, which can occur at any point, usually during childhood. Most people infected with the JC virus never develop PML. If the immune system becomes weak, the virus can reactive and makes it way to the brain where it begins its attack on myelin. As the myelin is damaged, scar tissue begins to form. The resulting lesions from car tissue interfere with impulses that travel to different parts of the body, ultimately resulting in a range of symptoms.Alene was diagnosed with PML is June 2018 when doctors found a mass in her brain. She is paralyzed completely on her right side. She suffers from memory problems and mental slowness, general weakness, and sensory loss.Her family has created this gofundme page to try and raise funds to offset the cost of prescription drugs, treatment, mobility equipment, nursing, facility placement, and ongoing care.No contribution is to small.
