Prosthetic Hand for Kaitlyn

Our daughter, Kaitlyn, who was very active in dance, boxing, mixed martial arts, and working out at the gym, contracted a very severe case of bacterial meningitis in February 2013 at age 18.  We were so afraid we were going to lose her, but through prayers from all over the world and because of her fighting spirit, her life was spared.  She was in the Burn ICU at UCI Medical Center for six months, undergoing over 20 surgeries, including amputation of all four limbs and multiple skin graft surgeries.  She then spent two months in inpatient rehab at Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center before she was able to come home in October 2013.  Her attitude is amazing, and she continues to have that fighting spirit while she learns to walk with prosthetic legs and to do as much as she's able on her own with a prosthetic right arm.  She doesn't qualify for any government assistance, as she worked for only a few months between high school graduation in June 2012, and her illness in February 2013.  She has a college fund, which eliminates her eligibility to collect any type of disability income.  Our group insurance has provided her with basic prostheses, but won't pay for anything beyond that.  We would love to be able to get her at least one hand with individual finger movement, which would allow her so much more independence than she has now, but insurance won't cover this, and we aren't able to pay for it.  These hands cost around $100,000 apiece.  Kaitlyn has two online businesses and is doing what she can to work toward her independence, but she can use all the help she can get toward the purchase of a more highly functioning prosthetic hand.  An alternative to donating online is to send a check to Kaitlyn Dobrow at P.O.
