We're asking for your help to send, for the first time ever, a youth hockey team to represent the United States at the EuroChem Cup in Novomoskovsk, Tula, Russia!
On May 24-30, 2018, the Albany Capitals, a team of 10-12-year-old hockey players, will embark on an epic journey across the pond to represent the United States at the EuroChem Cup in Novomoskovsk, Tula, Russia. This is the first time a U.S. team has participated in the tournaments' eight-year history. A great honor and experience for the kids, the team and families of the Capital District and Central New York area.
In November 2017, the Russian Embassy approached the Albany-Tula Alliance, a non-profit organization composed of citizens of Albany, NY and Tula, Russia dedicated to the growth and well-being of both communities. Albany was invited to send a team, and the city accepted.
The EuroChem Cup is one of the largest children’s hockey tournaments in Europe and teams from eight different nations will compete. For each country participating in the tournament, middle schools in Novomoskovsk will be assigned a country. The students then learn about the country (and city), paint themselves in its colors and become their fans for the duration of the tournament. Hailing from the United States, the Capitals will, of course, wear red, white and blue.
The Albany Capitals will be coached by Former NHL player Brad Chartrand of Saratoga Springs, NY, who spent 5 years with the Los Angeles Kings. Brad will be assisted by Styles Bridges IV of Saratoga, Eric Porter and John Parks, both of Syracuse, NY.
