Alan Zheng's Memorial Fund

My friend Alan Zheng of 36 years, a son, father of two children, and a devoted husband, passed away peacefully at the age of 48 with family members by his side on August 19th 2017 in Los Angeles.

He suffered a massive brain hemorrhage on Sunday evening, August 13th.  After being rushed to the hospital, doctors performed several medical procedures, and countless tests. Unfortunately, after all the efforts, he never regained consciousness and the doctors declared that he no longer had any brain activity.  He was taken off live support on Sunday August 19th.

Alan was a man that lived a very modest life, never took any short cuts, and always did everything the right way. He loved spending time with his 3 1/2 year old son, and was so looking forward to having a daughter next month.  Without a word of goodbye, and with such a sudden death, it has left his family in total devastation. Alan was a great son, husband, father, brother, and friend.

Alan was born in China in 1969 and immigrated to the United States in 1981. We met in junior high school in 1981 and have been friends ever since. Alan was an excellent student and excelled in academics obtaining a bachelors degree in civil engineering from California State University Los Angeles in 1992 and a masters degree in structural engineering at University of Southern California in 2000.  He was an associate member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, and he won the 2006 young engineers award from the Orange County Engineering Council (OCEC).

Alan was a very experienced bridge engineer, you can see his work throughout southern California and the Central Valley.  From highway bridges in Bakersfield, to light rail structures on the Metro Gold Line, the commuter rail bridges on Empire Ave in Burbank, the Sprinter light rail in San Diego County, the Jurupa Ave grade separation bridge in Riverside, a pedestrian bridge over the busy 110 freeway in Downtown LA, and the Metro ExpressLanes that many of you drive on, Alan has been an integral part of the engineering teams that made them happen.

Alan was the sole source of income for his family. His toddler son, and 8 months pregnant wife are not only left with the sudden loss of a father, and husband but also their only means of livelihood.  Other family members, and friends are trying to help as much as we can but we alone are not enough.  We are turning to our community for help with medical, funeral, and child care costs.  Please find it in your hearts to give what you can to this mother of one young son and a child that is not yet born.  Please help and show them that we care and support them in their most trying time.

Thank you.
