** Update **
Fantastic that the funds keep coming in and that the total has been surpassed in a big way. The numbers of students involved in the Duke of Edinburgh's scheme has grown significantly and at present we have around 150 actively completing either bronze, silver or the gold level of the award. In order to continue to grow and develop this amazing opportunity for young people the money raised has bought expedition kit such as tents, stoves, sleeping bags and ruck sacks and we have also been able to support staff gaining qualifications to enable them to help lead and support the expeditions. We have also been able to fund students in taking part to ensure that the cost is not a barrier to taking part. We have a great staff team who volunteer their time to ensure the scheme can run and we are all very motivated in trying to keep the cost of the award down so that it is accessible to large numbers of students.
We are still in need of additional funds to continue the growth of D of E at Harton so any donations are incredibly well received and will make a real positive difference.
Thank you so much.
Mr Burroughs
Deputy Head Teacher/Director of 6th Form
Alan Williams was a Senior Pastoral Leader and science teacher at Harton Academy, and had worked at the school for 24 years. As part of his role, Alan oversaw the school’s vast array of extra- curricular activities. One activity which Alan was very much involved in was the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme.
Having spoken to Alan’s partner, Cath, and their family, we would very much like to honour Alan by having a special fund in Alan’s name to help with the associated costs of students doing the D of E Award scheme. We think that this is a fabulous idea and the school will also make donations through charity events in the future.
Just a small donation from many people will add up to a significant sum to help students take part in this wonderful scheme.
Thank you.
