<div>Alaa is one of my close relatives in Khan Younis. He has a wife, a three-year-old daughter, and a baby son who was born at the end of August this year. Their lives have been directly affected by the ongoing destruction in Gaza, as their home was completely destroyed, and they are now forced to live in tents under unbearable conditions. I am raising these funds to help them survive and rebuild.

<div>My name is Serena. While I was born in the United States, my father was Palestinian, born and raised in Gaza, and I carry deep personal ties to my family in the region. Alaa’s story is heartbreaking, and the words, videos, and photos he has shared online during this tumultuous time have compelled me to help him and his family.

<div>I am Alaa Al-Farra, 31 years old. I live in the beautiful, simple city of Gaza, where I reside with my wonderful small family, consisting of my wife, Mariam, and our children, Maria and Qais. Our lives were filled with love and stability despite the difficulties we faced. I worked as a lawyer in a well-known firm, striving to build a better life for my children and my wife, challenging all circumstances with determination and patience.

<div>But that life I dreamed of and wished to provide for my family suddenly turned upside down. On a morning when the sun did not shine, we woke up to the sounds of bombing and explosions, as if we were living the worst nightmare. The war, that word that dominated our imaginations, destroyed everything I had built and tore apart my family's future.

<div>We left our home, fleeing from death, heading south in search of a new life. But what we found was far from hope, as I faced starvation and a lack of clean drinking water. I felt I was dying daily in search of a morsel to satisfy my family's hunger. I fought for a loaf of bread we could share, while my little son Qais, who is barely days old, suffers from a severe shortage of infant milk. I feel helpless when I see my wife struggling with malnutrition, her weight dropping to less than 30 kilograms (66 lbs).

<div>We are engulfed in despair, yet we try to create hope by recalling our previous lives. We try to convince ourselves that we will return to rebuild our home. Despite everything, our hopes faded when we saw our house burn on screens, completely destroyed. I saw my daughter Maria, who is not yet three years old, asking me with confusion, "Why is our home being destroyed, Dad? Where will I sleep?" And when I looked into her innocent eyes, I couldn't respond. I realized that the words of war and destruction were beyond her understanding, and I cried bitterly until I felt for a moment that my heart would stop and wished it would end to find peace in death.

<div>My dear Maria bears her pain in the simplest ways; she wished for chocolate and sweets, but all I could offer were promises. We searched for a tent to shelter us after our home was completely destroyed, but the prices were far beyond our reach, at a time when we were begging for a morsel of food. I stand for long hours to obtain 20 liters (approx. 5 gallons) of water, while I hear Qais's cries echoing at night from hunger.

<div>The pain is indescribable, and the regret haunts us.

<div>Is this humanity?

<div>Is this justice?
</div>
<div>While the world watches, indifferent to the suffering.

<div>I do not write to you to plead for sympathy, but to ignite your hearts with the magnitude of the suffering we face. All I want is a chance to escape Gaza, to build a life worthy of humanity away from war and destruction. I want my children, Maria and Qais, to live in a safe place, far from the smell of shells and devastation.
