Akira's Cancer Fight

Donation protected
We are calling on the generosity of friends, family, co-workers and all who have the privilege of knowing our dear friend, Andrew “Akira” Bell.  Please support him in his cancer battle.

On May 10, 2017, Akira went to the UCSD Hillcrest Emergency Room. He was having an extremely difficult time breathing and could barely swallow.

After several tests, the team of physicians determined that he needed an emergency Tracheostomy in order for him to breathe properly.  He also underwent a second surgery to insert a G-Tube in order for him to receive medications and nutrition.

After surgery, the surgeons determined there was a mass in his lower esophagus and that it was cancer.  He is currently undergoing tests to determine the stage, and if it has spread to other organs.

This is very difficult news because this isn’t Akira’s first battle with cancer.  In 2012, he was first diagnosed with throat cancer (Squamous Cell Carcinoma).  The treatment consisted of chemo and radiation. Luckily, he was in remission for several months, but then unfortunately there was news of a second tumor in his throat.  This was followed by more rounds of chemo and radiation.

In the months that followed, he suffered a broken shoulder due to the radiation weakening his bones, and another cancer diagnosis in his right eye.  His body and muscles had changed, and he felt extremely weak.  This made it very difficult to work in his profession of over twenty years in the hospitality industry as a fine dining captain and bartender.

Thankfully, after years of fighting his cancer, it went into remission.  He never gave up and pushed himself right back into working in the hospitality industry. He continued to provide guests with the ultimate dining experience while growing stronger every day.

I have had the honor of working alongside Akira for the past 15 years.  He is a vibrant loving soul, who never complains, despite the many setbacks, he works harder than anyone I know. His life has been focused on the wellbeing of others; he has an amazing ability to take care of his guests without them even knowing – always gliding throughout service like a perfect orchestra.

As you can imagine with Akira no longer able to work due to his recent cancer diagnosis, the unforeseen expenses have risen dramatically.  The funds from your support will help get him through this financially troubled time by covering the many costs that he is going to accrue due to lost wages throughout this challenging battle.

Thank you in advance for your love and support. Please continue to pray for Akira and help spread the word. Akira Bell has shown kindness and compassion to so many people, now it is our opportunity to do the same for him!

A note from Akira:

Even though frustrating, I find comfort in God, my girlfriend , family , friends and my co-workers. All their kind gestures and prayers get me through this difficult time.

I find a smile everyday with my little TT, my Pomeranian, my friend that has been with me through all my medical challenges.

Any assistance I can receive will help me through this financially troubled time.

Thank you all,

Akira Andrew Bell
