Ajudar o Martin, uma história de amor e fé

Olá! Sou o Martin, tenho 7 anos e sou um menino que chamam de “especial”, porque tenho paralisia cerebral e com 80% de incapacidades.

Nasci prematuramente às 24 semanas com 800 gr. e tive uma hemorragia cerebral de Grau IV, que me provocou cistos no cérebro.

O diagnóstico era ficar em estado vegetativo e a equipa média propôs desligar as máquinas que me mantinham vivo.

Não, isso não aconteceu, porque os meus pais sabiam que era, e ainda sou, um guerreiro!

Desde esse momento, já fui submetido a 8 operações ao cérebro e, numa destas, a equipa médica disse que eu estava em morte cerebral, mas…. ainda estou aqui, surpreendi todos à minha volta.

Aprendi que o Amor e a Fé têm muito poder. Amor e Fé dos meus pais e da minha família, e dos médicos que acreditam, Amor e Fé dos meus amigos da Escola, e de todos os que me apoiam e à minha família e me fazem sentir especial.

Hoje frequento a Escola e tenho muitos amigos, que me ajudam a

vestir a bata, a brincar e a aprender. Tenho algum movimento dos membros, mas não consigo andar e, isso sim, faria toda a diferença na minha vida.

Não só porque sei que posso ser mais feliz, mas também porque facilitará a vida daqueles que estão todos os dias a olhar por mim.

Os meus pais encontraram uma Clínica aqui em Portugal, com técnicas de reabilitação especializadas e onde já fiz um tratamento. Lá aprendi a me sentar sozinho e os resultados são visíveis e animadores.

Contudo, a Clínica é privada e os custos e a quantidade de ciclos de tratamento que ainda necessito são muito elevados. Nesta idade, ainda em crescimento, os terapeutas afirmam que tenho potencial e que é possível um dia andar, mas precisava da vossa ajuda para conseguir voar mais alto.

Love and Faith

Hello, I am Martin. I am a seven-year-old boy and people call me "special" because I have cerebral palsy (80% of disabilities). I was born prematurely at 24 weeks weighing 800g, and then and there I had a Grade IV cerebral haemorrhage, which resulted in cysts in my brain… (there is a technical term for it).

The diagnosis given at birth was that I would live in a vegetative state and the medical team suggested turning off the machines which kept me alive. That did not happen because my parents knew I was, and still am, a fighter… Since then I have had five (8) brain surgeries and after one of these the medical team stated I was brain dead, but they were in for a surprise… I am still here! I have learnt that Love and Faith have so much power. Love and Faith from my parents and my family, and from the doctors who believe in me, Love and Faith from my friends at School, and from those who support me and my family and make me feel special. At school I have many friends who help me put on my school apron, who play with me and help me learn. I have some limb movement but I am not able to walk and that, yes walking, would make a big difference in my life. I know I will be happier but this independence will also make it much easier on those who help me on a daily basis. My parents have found a Clinic which specializes in rehabilitation techniques where I have started a treatment. I have learnt to sit up straight on my own and the results are visible and encouraging. However, it is a private Clinic and the amounts asked for the treatment cycles I still need are very high. At this age, and as I am still growing, the therapist have stated that I have potential and that walking is possible one day, but to do so I need your help to reach my dream.
