<div>É marido, pai de duas crianças lindas, atleta dedicado e um fervoroso devoto do Caminho de Santiago.

<div>Este ano, na sua 21.ª peregrinação, foi agraciado com a medalha da Archiconfradia do Apóstolo Santiago e tornado confrade.
</div>

<div>No tatame, o Álvaro sempre foi sinónimo de disciplina, humildade e superação.
</div>
<div>Após receber um diagnóstico devastador de cancro raro e agressivo a 10 de Agosto de 2024 e passar por cirurgia à parótida, retirando um tumor e todos os nervos faciais até ao ombro do lado direito, resultando em paralisia total da face direita e parcial do ombro, ele não desistiu de treinar e recuperar.

<div>Após dois meses de quimioterapia e radioterapia em simultâneo, quando tudo parecia melhorar, em Janeiro de 2025, o olho direito paralisou e foi novamente internado em Fevereiro com dores crónicas de cabeça e já sem visão do lado direito.
</div>

</div>
<div>Ainda assim, a luta e a tentativa de recuperar novamente continuam, mesmo após o diagnóstico em Julho (Pet Scan) onde detectaram metástases nos ossos (Baço e coluna), abdómen, axilas, traqueia e pulmão.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Mesmo após este diagnóstico, em julho de 2025, participou no Portugal Grand Slam de Jiu-Jitsu, emocionando toda a comunidade do Jiu-Jitsu ao competir num dos momentos mais difíceis da sua vida — um verdadeiro exemplo de coragem.
</div>

</div>
<div>Desde então, tem realizado tratamentos em Portugal e em Espanha, com custos extremamente elevados que a família já não consegue suportar, após um ano de endividamento e despesas muito elevadas em exames, tratamentos, medicamentos e suplementos.
</div>

<div>Álvaro Costa is much more than a black belt in jiu-jitsu.
</div>
<div>He is a husband, a father of two beautiful children, a dedicated athlete, and a fervent devotee of the St. James Way (Camino de Santiago).
</div>

</div>
<div>This year, during his 21st pilgrimage, he was honored with the medal of the Archconfraternity of the Apostle Santiago and made a confrere.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>On the tatami, Álvaro has always been synonymous of discipline, humility, and overcoming challenges.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>After receiving a devastating diagnosis of a rare and aggressive cancer on August 10, 2024, and undergoing parotid surgery to remove a tumor and all facial nerves up to the shoulder on the right side, resulting in total paralysis of the right side of his face and partial paralysis of his shoulder, he did not give up on training and recovering.
</div>

<div>After two months of simultaneous chemotherapy and radiotherapy, when everything seemed to improve, in January 2025, his right eye became paralyzed, and he was hospitalized again in February with chronic head pain and no vision in the right eye.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Even so, the fought and the attempt to recover continued, even after the diagnosis in July (Pet Scan) where metastases in the bones (spleen and spine), abdomen, armpits, trachea, and lungs were detected.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Despite this diagnosis, in July 2025, he participated in the Portugal Grand Slam of Jiu-Jitsu, moving the entire jiu-jitsu community by competing during one of the most difficult moments of his life — a true example of courage.
</div>

</div>
<div>Since then, he has been receiving treatments in Portugal and Spain, with extremely high costs that the family can no longer bear, after a year of indebtedness and very high expenses on exams, treatments, medications, and supplements.
</div>
