For some time now that I used to feed a street cat, as well as other people in my street would, he would always come around asking for water and food occasionnaly, as he looks like the Felix cat food brand that's what I called him.
Sadly, a few days ago, he showed up in a very damaged state, he was never a cat to let you get too close, but this time he chose to come close and ask for help: full of deep wounds, most of them covered by larvae, even inside his mouth there were wounds everywhere, very weak, dehydrated and malnourished.
I took him urgently to the nearest Vet, and after a few exames and bloodwork he tested positive with Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV), renal failure, gengivitis (he had a bone he had tried to certainly eat but got stuck in his mouth and must've been there for a while since his mouth was filled with wounds and larvae on them), and anemia. The situation was too urgent to wait for an animal society to turn up for help, he was clearly suffering and needed help badly, he was taken in with a reserved prognosis.
Unfortunetely, even with all efforts, after a day hospitalized his state only got worse, he barely lifted his head to move around. And I had to make the very tough call, after trying to help him, to let him go and stop his suffering.
I was with him for a bit before the whole procedure and stayed by his side even during, it was extremely hard for me, but he came to me for help and that's the least I could do, not leave him alone in his final moments.
The vet costs were around 400€, an amount I'm covering by myself, and that has left me extremely financially strained for the month that we still have most of ahead.
Even though the little guy wasn't mine, I did what any animal lover would do without a second thought.
If you can help me with any amount, even symbolic, it'll be a great help. And if you can't, that's ok, sharing it would also go a long way.
Everything will be posted with maximum transparency, the bills, photos of the little guy so you can see what it was, how he was, and so you can see who you're actually helping in the end.
Thank you so much for reading so far, and for any support possible.
Muito obrigado / Thank you so much
