Youth Camel Camp for Troubled Teens

Donation protected

We've been inundated with emails from parents of teenagers who are really struggling with life at the moment. I mean to the point of depression, anxiety, self harm and suicidal. These parents have contacted us because of the Youth Camel Camp (a self development program for teens in the desert with camels) that we (Outback Australian Camels) have on offer these July 2014 school holidays (www.YouthCamelCamp.com). We had proclaimed that we had scholarships to offer 'some' teens.... the funding we were sourcing - turns out - isn't going through.... So this has caused us to step completely out of our comfort zone and ask the wider community if they can help.

WHY Youth Camel Camp?

Russell, Tara & Aaron joined together to create the Youth Camel Camp after they saw a growing need for the young people of today to ‘escape’ their daily grind of media, outside influences confusing teens from their own identity, peer pressure and experience something profound and completely life altering.

Growing up as a teen is hard (we all remember that!), but with the right tools, mentors and positive mindset, teens can now have the chance to feel like something is for sure in their developing bodies and minds, and that is - themselves!

Our core values is what gives this self development program for youth in Australia a new foundation to build a positive life from.

On this trek teens will learn:

Basic and necessary survival skills
--> Navigation
---> building camp fire and cooking
---> Environmental awareness

How to deal with challenging situations
---> Team building exercises
---> Negotiation skills
---> Listening skills

Positive life strategies
---> Daily open discussions
---> Journalling exercises
---> Adult mentorship & Guidance

And most importantly - to have the time of their life!

Each individual cost = $1397 which is as close to cost price we can get. This includes all transport, food, accommodation and equipment etc.

All amounts given mean the same and it all contributes to getting 2 teens in particular out on this trek.

"Teen 1" a 14year old girl who struggles to fit in and struggling from slow self esteem to bullying which intern has turned into 'self harm' (cutting herself).

"Teen 2" a 17 year old boy who was adopted out to some really lovely folks who are dealing with his mild Autism, low self esteem, suicidal thoughts and being a victim to sexual abuse. He is dealing with a lot of hurt and pain right now and is unsure of his direction in life.

At the end of the tunnel Russell, myself and a friend (Aaron) will work our arses off to make sure these kids 1. have a great time out there (a good 'break'!) 2. have the chance to speak with mentors and process their fears and hurt feelings 3. experience the camels, and well, thats where the magic really lies.

If you can help in any way we would greatly love to call these teens and tell them that they can come on this Youth Camel Camp!
