Grace's Companion Dog

This is Grace, our beautiful little girl. She has Lissencephaly and there is no cure.
Our aim with this campaign is to raise funds to provide Grace with a companion dog from Dogs for Kids with Disabilities.
Lissencephaly is a rare condition affecting 1 in 100000 births and develops when a fetus is 12 to 14 weeks old. During this time nerve cells begin to move to other areas of the brain as it develops, but for fetuses with lissencephaly, the nerve cells don’t move. In severe cases such as Grace's, children are not expected to develop mentally beyond a three- to five-month old function. Children with severe Lissencephaly are not expected to reach adulthood.
So what does this look like for Grace? Grace is unable to sit, stand or walk. She has epilepsy and suffers from daily seizures. She is unable to talk, can't eat or drink and is fed by a tube.
Despite all the challenges that Grace faces, she is an affectionate and loving little girl who touches the hearts and lives of all those who know her.
Why a companion dog?
Lissencephaly can’t be reversed so treatment aims to support and comfort affected children, which is where a companion dog comes in.
Dogs for Kids with Disabilities is a non-profit organisation that specialise in training assistance and companion dogs to improve the lives of children with a disability. The dogs are trained to help reduce stress and anxiety, help children sleep better and build communication. Grace's dog will also be trained in the home to specifically meet her individual needs.
Grace lights up around dogs. We hope that by providing Grace with a companion dog we can improve her overall outlook and ensure that her life is filled with as much love and laughter as possible.
