Help Jerry Dawkins Fight Cancer

On May 30, 2014 my dad, Jerry Dawkins, a man only 64 years of age, went to the doctor after 2 weeks of severe headaches and forgetfulness. Easy symptoms to ignore, ailments many face regularly. The diagnosis, however, was not easy to ignore - Brain Tumor. With hardly a moment to let the news sink in, he was told that immediate surgery would be required the next morning to remove the tumor. After surgery, more bad news was to come - Stage 4 Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM).
This type of cancer is one of the most aggressive there is and will require weeks of daily radiation and chemotherapy. Unfortunately, not all treatments options are available where he lives, so he will also need to travel to receive the best and most advanced treatment. To get that treatment, he has been referred to the University of Alabama at Birmingham to a doctor who specializes in brain tumors, where it will be determined if he is a candidate for investigational drugs and clinical trials.
Jerry wants to fight this, he wants to beat this. It will be a long, tough, expensive road to get the best treatment possible, but it will give Jerry a chance to fight.
Jerry was forced into early retirement in 2012 when an old injury required a 2nd back surgery. Shortly after, his wife’s long term employer shut their doors and everyone was laid off. They need help to cover upcoming expenses of treatment and travel.
Jerry has worked hard his whole life, working to beat this cancer will be no exception. He wants more quality time with his family and friends. He wants to watch more Alabama football, go fishing and work in his shop. He wants to make more trips to the beach and spend more afternoons standing at his grill. He wants to log more hours on I-10 traveling to Jacksonville to see his grandkids who adore their Papa.
I wish in a time like this that money wasn’t at the top of everyone’s minds. But it is. This will be a long, expensive road and we are asking for help. Please consider giving money - any amount helps - to help Jerry with his fight.
