The Willem C. Vis Moot is the most prestigious arbitration moot in the world taking place in Vienna every year. Almost 400 law schools from around the world congregate in Vienna the week before Easter every year to participate in the oral rounds. The Vis Moot provides life-changing experiences and many leading international arbitration practitioners and academics were first exposed to arbitration through the Vis Moot. Unfortunately, due to the significant costs associated with in-person participation sub-Saharan African Law Schools have been historically under-represented in Vienna.
This year, some Melbourne-based Vis alumni have decided to help our African friends out by putting together a fundraiser in an attempt to provide the financial backing to get at least one African Law School to Vienna for the 2025 edition of the Vis Moot. We are doing this by directing our funds to Africa in the Moot.
Africa in the Moot are using their resources to support students from African Law Schools in the field of arbitration and to support African Law Schools who want to enhance teaching in the field of international commercial law and arbitration. Their intention is to support future practitioners from the African continent as part of the global international arbitration community and to increase arbitration awareness, experience, and expertise in the region. Our intention is to enable the great work being done by Africa in the Moot.
Please give what you can! Every dollar goes towards making a significant impact in the lives of our African friends.
