It's been quite some time since we've posted and a lot has happened with Airto's recovery since our previous update. Airto's health has recently deteriorated and once again, Flora isn't able to manage him properly by herself.
Thanks to your help, Airto was recovering well with regular visits from the home care nurse and physical therapy three times a week. Despite his challenges, he was doing his best to maintain a positive attitude. Unfortunately, the cost of their rent has recently increased. Still without health insurance, the total burden of medical costs plus their cost of living, their situation is rapidly becoming unsustainable.
Our family is currently searching for feasible living options for Airto and Flora where the cost is lower and they have access to some kind of assistance. It's a tall order but as if by Divine intervention we found a place in Rio that could be good. We are currently being evaluated to see if they qualify for residency.
The place provides a community of their peers, access to healthy meals, creative and musical enrichment programs, laundry service, emergency medical care and physical therapy on-site. Our family would be responsible for paying a reasonable monthly rent and for providing Airto with a regular caregiver, plus any extras.
We are praying for a favorable outcome but in the meantime are doing what we can to somehow get to Brazil so we can spend some time helping them in person. We need to find a way to cover costs for our trip such as passport renewal fees and airfare, ground transportation, room and board, etc...
Whether or not they get accepted at the place in Rio, a move is imminent and we continue to research any available and affordable options that might work well for them. Your help has already shown us how Airto's health can improve significantly. Even through this difficult time, we believe that he can improve again if the proper sustainable resources and assistance are in place.
This is why we are appealing to you all once again for your help. Of course, your donations are what make it possible for us to plan and move on their behalf. However, your prayers, encouragement, and well-wishes are also food for the soul which fortifies our spirits for the tasks ahead. Please give what you can and don't forget to share our Go Fund Me link with your friends, families, and musical peers because every little bit counts! Together, we can help Airto and Flora find a clean, safe place to live and a sustainable, much improved and very well-deserved good quality of life.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts...
