Rest in Peace

My father, Barry Huntoon, is desperately in need to a liver transplant.  He has been a fighter his entire life and now it's time to fight the fight he's unable to himself.

Who is Barry Huntoon?  He's a sarcastic, fun-loving father of three, grandfather of two, disabled veteran and friend to hundreds of lucky people.  He's always the one to play a prank, lightening any room with his humor and charisma.

He was taken by ambulance to Tri-City Medical Center on Friday 3/19/2016.  He went into a coma on Wednesday, 3/23 and was put on life-support on Thursday, 3/24, as he was struggling to breath.  We worked tirelessly to convince the VA to pay for his transfer to UC San Diego  Medical Center (UCSD) last night, 3/27/2016.  UCSD is a specialized medical center that is equipped to care for the seriousness of his condition.  UCSD also has a liver transplant program.

His ailments are a results of a disease he contracted while serving in the Army as a combat medic.  He has a 100% disability rating with the VA.  As a combat medic in the 1960s and 1970s, wearing gloves wasn't always an option and he came in contact with blood infected with Hepatitis C.  He was cured of Hepatitis C last summer.  The VA has refused to pay for the liver transplant at UCSD.

His condition is extremely serious and any help is greatly appreciated.  Please no visitors at this time.

His loving daughter,
Brianna Huntoon
