20 Air Quality Pollution Monitors Lake Tahoe

Tax deductible
"If The Sky Isn't Blue...The Lake Isn't Blue"

Current air quality pollution monitoring coverage in the Lake Tahoe Basin and surrounding communities is poor and in many areas of the basin, non-existent.

We as citizens can work together to help solve this shortfall.

State and local air quality boards and districts along with the US Forest Service are not providing adequate, real time transparent  24/7 air quality pollution monitoring coverage within the Lake Tahoe Basin during agency burn events. They have failed to keep up with important technology for the benefit of public health.

The well-being of residents, visitors, children, pets, wildlife, recreation and commerce is being impacted.

According to government records, the US Forest Service has been engaged in purposeful heat and pollution growth policies since the mid 70's. There is currently no requirement or mechanism to properly record accurate and total toxic emission data from each of these agency created burn events.

Additionally, airborne toxic particulate matter from these events impact Lake Tahoe's clarity and all Sierra mountain streams, ponds and alpine lakes. We now experience an almost year round agency pollution assault, unnecessarily depositing thousands of tons of particulate matter, PM10, PM2.5 including carcinogenic Carbon Black into our Tahoe Sierra waters.

Your donation will be used for the purchase and installation of 20 purpleair.com outdoor air quality monitors to be installed throughout the Lake Tahoe Basin.  These air monitors cost $199.00 each. The 24/7 transparent access air quality data will be displayed on the purpleair.com website.

The 20 air monitors will be installed free of charge throughout the Lake Tahoe Basin on properties owned by our Citizen Science air monitoring host volunteers. Citizens must take the lead, and together we can help provide important technology and coverage to more accurately display and gather agency created toxic air quality impacts at Lake Tahoe.

California and Nevada provide only 4 stationary air quality monitors for the entire Lake Tahoe Basin. A few portable monitors have been deployed in the Basin by air quality districts in California and Nevada, however they do not adequately measure pollutants throughout the entire Basin.
