Dance was introduce to me in the 3rd grade when I enrolled in the BUGS After-School Program. At the time, I simply wanted to be involved in something that would help me to escape the environment that I was navigating myself through. Being from Baltimore, my neighborhood was literally where The Wire was filmed. The BUGS Program had dance as on of the components we had to participate in and this is where I met Algernon Campbell. It was in 4th grade that Mr. Al, whom I now affectionately refer to as "God-Daddy", took an interest in my ability and thought that I should be introduced to Morton Street Dance Center where he was teaching. Donna Jacobs, the owner of MSDC, agreed with God-Daddy and offered me a scholarship to attend. I began to thrive and find the real escape for which I long. While at MSDC, I was taught many different dance styles from ballet to modern to jazz to tap to African. I grew and grew and grew. As high school approached, I audition for Baltimore School for the Arts Dance Program. Blessedly, I was accepted and it was there where my passion for dance was challenged each and every day. It definitely was not easy. My final year in high school which was truly my most difficult year. I wasn't sure if I wanted to continue dancing and really pursue it as a career. I actually pulled away from dance to figure some things out. Fast forward a year, it is July 2017 and I have reconnected with MSDC and my Full Circle Dance Company family. It was suggested that I audition for the Ailey School Scholarship Program. Knowing that I had not really trained or performed in a year, I went to the audition scared and nervous. A few days later, I receive an email stating the most unbelievable and life-altering information that I had ever received. I RECEIVED A SCHOLARSHIP FOR THE 2017-2018 SCHOOL YEAR AT THE AILEY SCHOOL! As excited as I was, this presented a new and bigger challenge for me. As I stated before, I come from dire and impoverished circumstances and do not have the necessary means to cover the tuition, student fees, and living expenses needed to move to New York in this short amount of time. This is where I need your kindness and consideration. I am asking graciously for any contribution to fulfill this dream of having a professional dance career by continuing my training at the Ailey School. As my godfather algernon will be managing the funds and keeping everything in order for me. Once again, It is with a humbled heart that I thank you for any contribution you are able to give in achieving my dream of becoming a professional dancer. May God Bless You!
