My Asylum Journey

Hey! If you don’t already know me, my name is Aiham. I’m an artist and graphic design student in Sarasota, Florida. I was born and raised in Syria. By the age of 16, I was forced to flee my country and seek refuge from the ongoing war. I have been in the United States for two years now. It has offered me a safe and understanding environment to express my true identity. But to sustain that, I need your help…

Due to my affiliation with a specific minority social group, I have been subject to persecution and mistreatment, inflicted by individuals whom the Syrian government will not control. In addition to that, my passport has expired in April 2018. Looking for a solution I realized that it’s impossible for me to renew my passport because the US and most other countries have closed the Syrian Embassies and no longer recognize their government. The only way I could renew it would be to return to Syria, but sadly, I cannot go back for the same reasons I initially left.

For the past two years, I’ve had amazing experiences in the United states. I am able to freely express myself without fear, in both my personal life and in my work as an artist. My current situation sparks a moment where I come to realize how much I appreciate where I am today and how much I want to maintain that.

I have decided to pursue asylum in the United States. The decision to file for asylum is a very serious one that can carry with it tremendous consequences. I need expert legal assistance to help me present a cohesive case demonstrating why I need to stay in the country. I have not had any luck with pro bono services so I made the decision to work with a private firm called Aljijakli & Kosseff, LLC of Columbus, OH. They are experienced immigration attorneys who have successfully represented individuals nationwide before the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). Unfortunately, I cannot afford the legal assistance, which is crucially essential for the success of my case.

This is how you can help me. I am hoping to collect $9000 to cover the legal expenses for my asylum case. I'm asking for your strong support to help me get through one of the most important parts of my journey in life.

If not granted asylum, I will be deported right after my college graduation in 2020 and sent back to Syria. There I will be forced to serve in the Syrian army and will be persecuted for my beliefs and lifestyle. I hope to avoid that with your help.

I am very thankful for all your donations and support. Please spread the word to as many people you want to share my story with. I will be making sure to keep you updated on how things are going with my case and on how much your help is changing my life.

Thank you
