<div>Je suis Fadel Afana, j’ai 52 ans et je suis originaire de Rafah dans la bande de Gaza, , où je travaillais comme médecin psychiatre.

<div>Je vous écris après avoir beaucoup réfléchi et hésité, mais mon espoir d’assurer à ma famille une vie digne me donne le courage de vous demander une aide urgente.
</div>
<div>Pendant six mois, les bombardements lourds et aveugles ont menacé à plusieurs reprises ma vie et celle de ma famille. Le siège total et la guerre contre Gaza, ainsi que la pénurie de produits de première nécessité, ont conduit à une période de faim, de soif et de froid. Nous sommes restés pendant plusieurs mois sans eau potable, sans électricité et avec très peu de nourriture. Nous avons eu peur pendant les longues nuits des frappes aériennes et des explosions ; notre seul espoir était de survivre.

<div>Mais ce n’était pas seulement la souffrance physique qui rongeait mon âme. C’était la peur, la terreur qui rongeait l’innocence de ma fille et peignait des cauchemars dans ses grands yeux. C’était la conscience que ce cycle de violence était devenu notre chant de naissance, menaçant d’étouffer les rêves dans leurs yeux.

<div>En tant que médecin et psychiatre, j’ai travaillé bénévolement dans différents hôpitaux et centres médicaux de Gaza depuis le début de la guerre. Je me suis engagé à rester et à sauver des vies. Mais j’en suis arrivé à un point où j’ai été contraint de quitter Gaza pour assurer la sécurité de ma famille. Choisir de partir a été une décision très douloureuse à prendre, mais la situation était devenue intenable.

<div>J’ai réussi à évacuer ma famille vers l’Égypte au prix de grands sacrifices. Nous sommes depuis 4 mois au Caire. En Egypte, nous avons découvert que nous n'avions aucun droit, aucun permis de séjour, nous ne pouvions ni travailler ni étudier. Nous avons donc décidé d’essayer de reconstruire une nouvelle vie, dans un nouvel exil, dans un autre pays, en France. Nous nous préparons donc à changer complètement d’existence, à recommencer une nouvelle existence, à partir de zéro. Il nous faudra trouver et payer un logement, et plus largement, faire face à toutes les dépenses de la vie quotidienne dans un pays européen où le coût de la vie est très élevé. Lorsque la guerre a commencé Nour, notre fille aînée, venait d’obtenir son diplôme de fin d’études secondaires et elle s’apprêtait à entamer une Licence d’informatique de gestion. Lara, la cadette, avait fait sa rentrée en dernière année de collège. Toutes les deux ne rêvent que d’une chose, reprendre leurs études et construire une vie meilleure qui leur fasse un peu oublier les horreurs qu’elles ont connues. Nous ne pourrons pas faire face à toutes ces dépenses, nous n’avons plus rien. tous nos biens à Gaza ont été détruits, et les dépenses causées par notre évacuation de Gaza et notre séjour au Caire ont fait disparaitre toutes nos économies.

<div>I am Fadel Afana, 52 years old and originally from Rafah in the Gaza Strip, where I worked as a psychiatrist.

<div>I am writing to you after much thought and hesitation, but my hope of ensuring a dignified life for my family gives me the courage to ask you for urgent help.
</div>
<div>For six months, heavy and indiscriminate bombings repeatedly threatened my life and that of my family. The total siege and war on Gaza, as well as the shortage of basic necessities, led to a period of hunger, thirst and cold. We remained for several months without drinking water, without electricity and with very little food. We were afraid during the long nights of airstrikes and explosions; our only hope was to survive.
</div>
<div>But it was not only physical suffering that gnawed at my soul. It was fear, terror that gnawed at my daughter’s innocence and painted nightmares in her big eyes. It was the awareness that this cycle of violence had become our birth song, threatening to smother the dreams in their eyes.
</div>
<div>As a doctor and psychiatrist, I have volunteered in different hospitals and medical centers in Gaza since the beginning of the war. I committed to staying and saving lives. But I reached a point where I was forced to leave Gaza to ensure the safety of my family. Choosing to leave was a very painful decision to make, but the situation had become untenable.
</div>
<div>I managed to evacuate my family to Egypt at the cost of great sacrifices. We have been in Cairo for 4 months. In Egypt, we discovered that we had no rights, no residence permits, we could neither work nor study. So we decided to try to rebuild a new life, in a new exile, in another country, in France. We are therefore preparing to completely change our existence, to start a new life, from scratch. We will have to find and pay for accommodation, and more broadly, meet all the expenses of daily life in a European country where the cost of living is very high. When the war began, Nour, our eldest daughter, had just graduated from high school and was getting ready to start a degree in business information technology. Lara, the youngest, had started her final year of secondary school. Both of them dream of only one thing: to resume their studies and build a better life that will make them forget a little the horrors they have known.

<div>We will not be able to meet all these expenses, we have nothing left. All our possessions in Gaza have been destroyed, and the expenses caused by our evacuation from Gaza and our stay in Cairo have wiped out all our savings.
