Je vais vous raconter l'histoire de l'homme qui m'a permis d'arrêter de fumer. Cet homme, c'est Sylvain Longpré. Sylvain et son frère Christian furent les premiers au Québec à ouvrir une boutique de vape et ce, en 2009. C'est avec eux que j'ai commencé la vape et eux qui furent les créateurs de la fameuse Vanille Bourbon de Vaporium dont je parlais tout le temps à l'époque.
Et bien comme au Canada, l'importation de nicotine est illégale, ils furent obligés de se rendre du côté obscur pour importer de la nicotine au Pays afin de continuer d'aider les fumeurs, à arrêter de fumer. Malgré leurs efforts et leurs multiples rencontres avec Santé Canada, les gouvernements Provincial et Fédéral, expliquant qu'il faudrait encadrer ce secteur afin que tout soit fait de façon légale et sécuritaire, rien n'y a fait, les gouvernements n'ont pas voulu bouger.
Résultat, Sylvain fût accusé un jour, au criminel de ne pas avoir déclaré de rentrer au Canada après un séjour à l'extérieur avec 2 bouteilles de 30 ml de liquide nicotiné pour sa propre consommation personnelle qu'il avait lui-même fabriqué à l'intérieur du Canada dans le laboratoire de son entreprise. Les services des Douanes connaissant très bien Sylvain, alors qu'il attendait une livraison de nicotine provenant des USA, ils saisirent la marchandise lorsqu'ils ont tenté de traverser la frontière pour encore une fois, aider les fumeurs à se débarrasser de leurs cigarettes. Résultat, encore accusé au criminel pour importation de nicotine.
Comme ils n'étaient plus en mesure de payer leurs avocats, ils ont donc décidé de plaider coupable pour mettre fin à ce cauchemar. Sylvain cette semaine, après 2 ans de démêlé avec la justice, après avoir fait une faillite personnelle, après avoir perdu sa maison, sa femme, son entreprise, son véhicule, tout ce qu'il avait et voir ces enfants une fin de semaine sur 2, a connu sa sentence; 45 jours de prison et 10 000$ d'amende à payer d'ici 12 mois. (après avoir fait faillite). Son frère Christian quant à lui, 4 mois à purger à domicile et 2 500$ d'amende.
C'est vraiment ce que méritent ces hommes ? Maintenant avec des dossiers criminels qui ne peuvent plus sortir du pays, qui ont aidé des dizaines de milliers voir centaines de milliers de fumeurs à cesser de fumer? J'ai parlé avec Sylvain cette semaine et voici ce qu'il m'a dit: "Ce qui me fait le plus mal, c'est de constater qu’après avoir été des pionniers dans l'industrie, après avoir ouvert la porte à des centaines d'entreprises au Québec et au Canada, personne n'a levé le petit doigt pour nous aider. Nous avons été laissé à nous-même."
C'est vraiment ça la justice au Canada? Et bien j'ai honte d'être Canadien.

Let me tell you the story of the man who helped me quit smoking. The story is about
Sylvain Longpré. Sylvain and his brother were the first to open a vape store in Quebec, and this was in 2009. They were the creators of the famous Vanilla Bourbon from Vaporium which I was always talking about.
As you already know, importing nicotine is illegal in Canada. They were forced then to go to the dark side to import nicotine in order to continue helping smokers to quit smoking. Despite their efforts and many meetings with Canada Health, Federal and Provincial government, explaining that this sector should be controlled so that every step could be done legally and safely but nothing was done, governments did not want to make any move.
One day, returning to Canada, Sylvain was criminally charged for not having reported two 30 ml bottles of liquid nicotine. This was for his personal use and made IN Canada in his own company’s laboratory. Also, Custom services, knowing Sylvain very well, seized a delivery of nicotine from the US when crossing the border. This was again to help smokers get rid of their cigarettes. Once again, he was criminally charged for nicotine import.
No longer able to pay their lawyers, the decided to plead guilty to end this nightmare. This week, after two years of legal problems, bankruptcy, losing his house, his wife, his business, his vehicle, everything he had and seeing his kids one weekend out of two, he got his sentence: 45 days in jail and a $10,000 fine to pay within 12 months (he already went bankrupt). Meanwhile, his brother Christian has four months to serve at home and a $2,500 fine.
Is it really what these men deserve? Their criminal records will not allow them to travel out of the country. Not to forget that they helped thousands, maybe even hundreds of thousands of smokers to quit. I spoke with Sylvain and he told me this week that “What hurts the most is to see that nobody has lifted a finger to help, after being pioneers in the industry and helping hundreds of companies to open their doors in Quebec and in Canada. We have been left to ourselves.”
Is this really justice in Canada? If so, I’m ashamed of being Canadian.
