<div>Sarah is an exceptional trans woman — a passionate nerd, brilliant, and always there for others. She gives selflessly to her community — and today, it’s our turn to reach out a hand to her.

<div>After years of waiting, navigating administrative procedures, anxiety, and self-doubt, Sarah finally has an appointment for two essential gender-affirming surgeries: a vaginoplasty and a chondrolaryngoplasty (tracheal shave). And she has made the courageous decision to move forward… in Thailand.

<div>Why there? Because the standards and care available in her region simply don’t meet her needs. She cannot imagine going through such a fundamental step in her life in a medical environment that wouldn’t feel safe or respectful to her. That’s why, on August 28 in Phuket, she will undergo what promises to be one of the most important days of her life.

<div>As you can imagine, such a project comes with very high costs — all the more so because Sarah is currently a full-time computer engineering student at university. She began her bachelor’s degree in fall 2024 and has now completed her third consecutive term. Three back-to-back terms without income create a lot of financial pressure, but she persists. Passionate about Linux operating systems, networking, and C/C++ programming languages, she dreams of one day putting her skills into practice in the workforce to help those in need. Sarah loves working in a team and socializing with her peers, and it’s not unusual to see her encouraging and supporting her classmates. It is only natural for her close friends to want to support her in return for this major milestone.

<div>What will happen once she’s there? Upon arriving in Phuket, and after a well-deserved rest, Sarah and her girlfriend Violette will head straight to the hospital for her admission and preoperative tests. The next day marks the official start of the process, which begins the 14-day hospital stay — a mix of surgery and recovery. Once the 14 days have passed, Sarah will leave the hospital knowing that a brand new chapter of her life has just begun.

<div>Après des années d’attente, de démarches administratives, d’anxiété et de remises en question, Sarah a enfin un rendez-vous pour deux chirurgies d’affirmation de genre essentielles pour elle : une vaginoplastie et chondrolaryngoplastie (retrait de la pomme d’Adam). Et elle a pris la décision courageuse d’aller de l’avant… en Thaïlande.

<div>Pourquoi là-bas? Parce que les standards et les soins offerts dans sa région ne répondent pas à ses besoins. Elle ne peut tout simplement pas envisager de vivre une étape aussi fondamentale de sa vie dans un contexte médical qui ne serait pas sécurisant ou respectueux pour elle. C’est donc à Phuket, le 28 août qu’elle a rendez-vous pour ce qui s’annonce comme l’un des jours les plus importants de sa vie.

<div>Mais comme vous pouvez l’imaginer, un tel projet est extrêmement coûteux — d’autant plus que Sarah est actuellement étudiante à temps plein en génie informatique à l’université. Elle a commencé le baccalauréat en automne 2024, et en est maintenant à sa troisième session de terminée. Trois sessions de suite pour une étudiante sans revenu entrainent beaucoup de pression financière, mais elle persévère. Passionnée par les systèmes d’exploitation linux, la réseautique et les langages de programmation C/C++, elle aimerait un jour pouvoir mettre ses connaissances en pratique en entreprise pour aider les personnes qui en ont besoin. Sarah aime travailler en équipe et socialiser avec ses pairs. Il n’est pas rare de la voir encourager et soutenir ses camarades. C’est donc tout naturel pour ses amies proches de vouloir la soutenir à leur tour pour ce grand moment.

<div>Que se passera-t-il une fois là-bas? Une fois arrivées à Phuket, et après un repos bien mérité, Sarah et sa copine Violette se dirigeront directement à l’hôpital pour son admission et des tests préopératoires. Ensuite le lendemain c’est le début officiel de la procédure, qui lance aussi le décompte de 14 jours à l’hôpital, entremêlés de chirurgie et de repos. Une fois les 14 jours écoulés, Sarah sortira de l’hôpital en sachant qu’un nouveau chapitre de sa vie viens de débuter.
