<div>Notre ami John a besoin de retrouver un peu de sa liberté en installant une solution de motorisation sur son fauteuil roulant. Cet équipement est coûteux aussi, l'aide même petite, de chacun de nous est précieuse  et appréciée.

<div>Son histoire est touchante, c'est lui qui la raconte le mieux.

<div>"Reprendre le chemin
</div>
<div>En novembre 2009, je suis monté dans le grenier d’un client pour réparer une fuite d’eau — quelque chose que j’avais fait d’innombrables fois auparavant. C’était une journée de travail tout à fait normale. J’étais actif physiquement, autonome, habitué à résoudre les problèmes de mes propres mains.
</div>
<div>Puis je suis tombé.
</div>
<div>La maison était silencieuse.
</div>
<div>J’étais seul.
</div>
<div>Pendant un instant, il n’y eut plus aucun bruit — seulement la poussière qui retombait et le son de ma propre respiration. Je me souviens davantage du choc que de la douleur. Je suis resté immobile, puis j’ai essayé de bouger — et c’est là que j’ai compris que je ne sentais plus mes pieds.

<div>Une peur glaciale m’a envahi. Allongé dans ce silence, j’ai compris, d’une manière que je ne saurais pleinement décrire, que quelque chose d’irréversible venait de se produire. Ma vie, telle que je la connaissais, venait de basculer en un instant.
</div>
<div>Avant ce jour, l’indépendance signifiait tout pour moi. Cela voulait dire travailler, subvenir aux besoins des miens, profiter du temps passé avec ma famille, m’adonner aux passions qui me faisaient me sentir vivant. Je me déplaçais librement dans le monde, sans y penser à deux fois.
</div>
<div>Aujourd’hui, je vis en fauteuil roulant de façon permanente.
</div>
<div>Vivre en fauteuil roulant a changé bien plus que ma façon de me déplacer — cela a transformé ma manière de participer à la vie.
</div>
<div>Le plus difficile, c’est de ne plus pouvoir agir spontanément. Les activités les plus simples demandent désormais de la planification, de l’aide, ou parfois ne sont tout simplement plus possibles. Je me surprends souvent à demander de l’aide pour des tâches que j’accomplissais autrefois sans même y penser.
</div>
<div>Demander de l’aide est l’une des choses les plus difficiles. Il est frustrant de dépendre des autres pour ce que je gérais autrefois seul. Il y a des moments où je passe à côté — des sorties, des activités, même de simples promenades — notamment avec mes enfants et mes petits-enfants.
</div>
<div>Avant ma chute, l’indépendance signifiait être présent, actif et pleinement impliqué dans la vie de ma famille. Aujourd’hui, je regarde depuis le bord du terrain.
</div>
<div>Malgré tout, je n’ai jamais cessé de vouloir rester actif et impliqué dans le monde qui m’entoure. J’aime toujours être en plein air. J’aime toujours la photographie. Et plus que tout, j’aime pouvoir partager pleinement des expériences avec les personnes qui comptent le plus pour moi.
</div>
<div>Je collecte actuellement des fonds afin d’acheter un dispositif d’assistance électrique @WHEELMOVE pour mon fauteuil roulant.
</div>
<div>Cet équipement me permettrait de parcourir de plus longues distances avec moins d’effort physique. Il me donnerait la possibilité de faire mes courses en toute autonomie. Il me faciliterait aussi la reprise de mes passions — en particulier la photographie, qui m’apporte joie et sens.
</div>
<div>Plus que tout, il me redonnerait un sentiment de liberté.
</div>
<div>La liberté d’aller plus loin.
</div>
<div>La liberté de participer.
</div>
<div>La liberté de dire « oui » plus souvent — surtout à mes enfants et à mes petits-enfants.
</div>
<div>Cela ne changerait pas ce qui s’est passé en 2009. Mais cela changerait ma manière de vivre aujourd’hui.
</div>
<div>Cela représenterait la possibilité de dire « oui » plus souvent — oui aux sorties, oui aux petites aventures, oui à la création de souvenirs plutôt qu’à les regarder de côté.
</div>
<div>J’imagine la première fois où je l’utiliserai : emprunter un sentier forestier avec mon épouse, mon appareil photo à la main. Avancer à ses côtés. Écouter les oiseaux, respirer le parfum des arbres, me sentir pleinement présent dans l’instant, capturer ces scènes calmes et magnifiques à travers mon objectif — et simplement être là.

<div>C’est cette liberté que j’espère retrouver.
</div>

<div>Walking the Path Again

<div>In November 2009, I climbed into a loft at a client’s house to fix a water leak — something I had done countless times before. It was a normal workday. I was physically active, independent, used to solving problems with my hands.
</div>
<div>Then I fell.
</div>
<div>The house was quiet.
</div>
<div>I was alone.
</div>
<div>For a moment, there was no sound at all — just the dust settling and my own breath. I remember the shock more than the pain. I laid still, then tried to move — and that’s when I realised I couldn’t feel my feet.
</div>
<div>A cold fear settled over me. I lay there in that silence, understanding in a way I can’t fully describe that something irreversible had just happened. My life, as I knew it, had shifted in an instant.
</div>
<div>Before that day, independence meant everything to me. It meant working, providing, enjoying time with my family, pursuing the hobbies that made me feel alive. I moved freely through the world without thinking twice.
</div>
<div>Today, I live permanently in a wheelchair.
</div>
<div>Living in a wheelchair has changed more than how I move — it has changed how I participate in life.
</div>
<div>The hardest part is not being able to do things spontaneously. Simple activities now require planning, assistance, or sometimes simply aren’t possible. I often find myself asking for help with tasks I used to do without thinking.
</div>
<div>Asking for help is one of the most difficult parts. It’s frustrating to rely on others for things I once managed independently. There are moments when I miss out — outings, activities, even simple walks — especially with my children and grandchildren.
</div>
<div>Before my fall, independence meant being present, active, and fully involved in my family’s life. Now, I watch from the sidelines.
</div>
<div>Despite everything, I have never stopped wanting to stay active and involved in the world around me. I still love being outdoors. I still love photography. And more than anything, I love being able to fully share experiences with the people I care about most.
</div>

<div>I am raising funds to purchase an electric wheel attachment for my wheelchair.
</div>
<div>This attachment would allow me to travel longer distances with less physical strain. It would mean being able to go shopping independently. It would make it easier to pursue my hobbies again — especially photography, something that brings me joy and purpose.
</div>
<div>More than anything, it would give me back a sense of freedom.
</div>
<div>The freedom to move further.
</div>
<div>The freedom to participate.
</div>
<div>The freedom to say “yes” more often — especially to my children and grandchildren.
</div>
<div>It would not change what happened in 2009. But it would change how I live today.
</div>
<div>It represents being able to say “yes” more often — yes to outings, yes to small adventures, yes to making memories instead of watching from the sidelines.
</div>
<div>I picture the first time I use it: taking a woodland footpath with my wife, my camera in hand. Moving alongside her. Listening to the birds, breathing in the scent of the trees, feeling part of the moment, capturing those quiet, beautiful scenes through my lens — and simply being there.
</div>
<div>That is the freedom I am hoping to regain.
</div>
