<div>Denia Bouchentouf est arrivée le 7 juillet 2022 à Winnipeg (Canada) pour rendre visite à sa fille aînée et revoir son unique petite-fille après 3 années de dure séparation. Accompagnée de sa fille benjamine Hizia, Denia devait repartir en Algérie le 4 septembre pour reprendre sa vie paisible auprès de son époux et sa fille cadette Amel.

<div>Le destin en a décidé autrement. Le 8 août, Denia a dû être hospitalisée en urgence car elle ne répondait plus, ne pouvait plus bouger et souffrait d’un manque d’oxygène. Après avoir passé 2 jours aux urgences de l’hôpital St Boniface de Winnipeg, elle a été transférée en service de cardiologie, puis aux soins intensifs quelques heures après suite à une dégradation rapide de ses signes vitaux.

<div>Les médecins n’arrivent toujours pas à émettre un diagnostic ni à expliquer le changement soudain de son état, passant d’une personne joyeuse et active à une personne dépendante qui ne peut plus rien faire. Depuis qu’elle a été admise à l’hôpital, elle a eu droit à tous types de tests et analyses mais aucun d’eux n’a aidé à déterminer les causes de cette dégradation. Elle est actuellement sous assistance respiratoire à l’ICU (Intensive Care Unit), et se bat très fort pour rester en vie. Durant ses rares moments de lucidité, ses pensées et ses paroles sont adressées à ses filles dont la vie a été chamboulée en un clin d’œil. Ayant eu recours à tous les moyens dont ils disposent, les médecins ont pris la décision de la transférer vers l’hôpital HSC de Winnipeg, plus spécialisé et qui, espérons-le, pourra lui venir en aide.

<div>Médecin généraliste et radiologue de formation, Denia a dévoué sa vie à aider les malades dans le secteur public en Algérie. Après avoir pris sa retraite, elle a continué à exercer son travail et à aider les nécessiteux. Elle est très aimée par ses patients et sa réputation la précède partout où elle est passée.

<div>Devant faire face à un immense fardeau financier occasionné par son hospitalisation, sa famille n’a d’autre choix que de demander de l’aide à toutes les âmes charitables qui seront touchées par son histoire. A son arrivée au Canada, Denia a contracté une assurance maladie d’une valeur de 50 000 $ dans le cas d’une éventuelle urgence, mais elle n’a jamais prévu de se retrouver dans une situation aussi critique. Vu son statut de touriste et la cherté du système de santé, même avec l’aide de la famille locale (seul son beau-fils travaille, sa fille ayant repris ses études), elle devra payer des sommes astronomiques pour pouvoir bénéficier des soins. Une nuit en soins intensifs coûte 12 000 $. Au 13 août, la facture se chiffre déjà à plus de 37 000 $ et ceci pourrait vite grimper vu qu’aucun diagnostic n’a encore été établi. De plus, sa demande de prise en charge auprès de son assureur devra d’abord être étudiée avant d’obtenir une réponse finale.

<div>Cette cagnotte est lancée par la communauté de Winnipeg au nom de ses filles Fatma, Amel et Hizia et sera versée directement à sa fille Fatma établie à Winnipeg. Elle est uniquement destinée à prendre en charge les frais médicaux de Denia. Le montant de la cagnotte indiqué ici est aléatoire et pourrait vite être dépassé dépendamment de l’évolution de son état de santé. Des mises à jour seront communiquées à chaque étape en espérant avoir des bonnes nouvelles au plus vite.

<div>Denia Bouchentouf arrived in Winnipeg (Canada) on July 7, 2022 to visit her eldest daughter and see her only granddaughter after 3 (Covid) years apart. Accompanied by her youngest daughter Hizia, Denia was to return to Algeria on September 4 to resume her peaceful life with her husband and her second daughter Amel.

<div>But fate decided otherwise. On August 8, Denia had to be hospitalized because she was unresponsive, could not move and suffered from a lack of oxygen. After spending two days in the emergency room of St Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg, she was transferred to the cardiology department, then to intensive care following a rapid deterioration of her vital signs.

<div>Doctors still can't come up with a diagnosis. She is currently on life support at the ICU (Intensive Care Unit) and is fighting very hard to stay alive. During rare moments of clarity, Denia’s thoughts and words are addressed to her daughters, whose life has been turned upside down in the blink of an eye. Having used every tool at their disposal, doctors at St. Boniface decided to transfer her to the HSC hospital in Winnipeg, which is more specialized and hopefully can help her.

<div>As a doctor (and radiologist by training), Denia devoted her life to helping patients in the public sector in Algeria. After retiring, she continued to practice her work and help the needy. Her patients love her, and her reputation precedes her wherever she has gone.

<div>Faced with an immense financial burden caused by her hospitalization, her family has no choice but to ask for help from all the charitable souls who will be affected by his story. Upon her arrival in Canada, Denia took out health insurance worth $50,000 in case of a possible emergency, but she never expected to find herself in such a critical situation. Given her status as a tourist and the high cost of the health system, even with the help of her family in Winnipeg (only her son-in-law works, her daughter having resumed her studies), Denia will owe an astronomical debt. A night in intensive care costs $12,000. As of August 12, the bill is already over $37,000, which could quickly climb, since no diagnosis has yet been established. In addition, her request for coverage from her insurer must first be studied before they decide if they will cover her.

<div>This relief fund has been started by the Winnipeg community, on behalf of her daughters Fatma, Amel and Hizia, and will be paid directly to her Winnipeg-based daughter Fatma. It is only intended to cover Denia's medical expenses. The target amount indicated is random and could climb fast if Denia remains in hospital. Updates will be communicated regularly on GoFundMe.
