Aiden's Health & Healing

Donation protected
**Update**

We are preparing for Aiden to have surgery on Monday, July 17th- 7 months after this journey began.  He will have a PD Catheter put in his belly for dialysis. Once the catheter is inserted, it will need to heal for a few weeks before we can use it. Please continue to pray for us as we continue to work through this process. Aiden's kidneys are only deteriorating more every week and we will start talking transplant options soon after surgery. We love you all and thank you for your support and we ask that you share his page as things are only getting more difficult. This FSGS he has is extremely aggressive and we are praying for some relief through dialysis. It's unimaginable to go from your baby being perfectly healthy at Christmas to needing dialysis to survive in 7 months but we are here..... Please continue to keep us lifted in prayer and God Bless......

Aiden's always been a miracle....from the time he entered this world (a little early-10 weeks), hooked up to machines and tubes, he's been a fighter with an amazing spirit and a heart bigger than his little body!

Fast forward 8 years, Aiden is smart, curious, handsome, talented in dancing, singing and cooking, super funny and silly and an overall happy kid! He had a VP shunt placed at the base of his brain to drain excess fluid build up caused by Hydrocephalus, a condition he's had since birth.  Less than 2 years ago, after suffering from debilitating migraines we found out that he has Split Ventricle Syndrome, which will cause him to require shunt revisions for the rest of his life.

Despite this Aiden is a trooper.  About 5 weeks ago Aiden was admitted to Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago with swelling of his entire body and his eyes swollen shut.  We thought it was an allergic reaction, but when it didn't go away, he was taken to the ER and we learned that he has Chronic Kidney Disease caused by FSGS (focal segmental glomerulosclerosis) a degenerative condition which if untreated requires dialysis or transplants.  The symptoms present themselves as Nephrotic Syndrome ( swelling, high blood pressure, fluid buildup, joint pain).  Both incurable conditions that can only be managed through medications and treatment in hopes of preserving the viable tissue ( his body has shown some resistance to medications already)  Aiden is still in good spirits.  His swelling hasn't subsided and he's suffered many complications including bacterial meningitis and having the shunt removed the doctors are constantly changing his treatment in an effort to figure out how to help him.

All of Aiden's treatments and medications are not currently covered by insurance.  He hasn't been to school and his parents have missed a lot of work being in the hospital with him.  We aren't sure when he will go home or what his new home life will look like with this condition.  His immune system is very weak and the chance of relapse is high if he's exposed to anything. He's on a very restrictive diet and will require substantial outpatient care.  As Aiden's aunt, I know he and his parents need help, but they will never ask, so I will.  Any assistance that you can give would be greatly appreciated and will go a long way toward Aiden's health and healing.  Aiden is and always has been a fighter, this is his test and he's going to pass!   Thank you for all the love, support and prayers for our friends and family.  God has not given us the spirit of fear, so we will continue to move forward with faith that God will take care of Aiden!
