Hi folks,
From July 13th to August 3rd this summer, I will be working in Sierra Leone in West Africa, with an organisation called Global SchoolRoom https://www.globalschoolroom.net/. Global Schoolroom is an Irish not-for-profit teacher education organisation which facilitates collaborative teacher education programmes in Sierra Leone and other countries. For three weeks I will be one of eight Irish teachers who will be providing CPD( continuous professional development) to 114 Sierra Leonean teachers who teach on average 60 students to a classroom although sometimes the teachers can go for months without being paid.The country is the fifth poorest in the world, life expectancy for men is 39 and for women 42 and no doubt you have heard about their civil war which thankfully ended in 2002. Since then, the country has been on the up but there are still huge challenges.
As most of you know, I've been teaching for a long time and have done some volunteer work abroad but never with teachers.What attracted me to this organisation was the opportunity to share the skills I've learned with other teacher educators and I know from my past experiences volunteering that I'm going to get far more out of this than I give.I am also very excited to spend time in Sierra Leone although I know conditions there will be a bit challenging for a girl who loves her Netflix and modern conveniences!And so to why I have set up a GO FUND ME page. Each participant must raise €3,000 which goes towards funding for the course for the teachers in Sierra Leone and transport and accommodation costs for the Irish teachers.I will pay €1,500 of this myself but it would be absolutely amazing if you could help me raise the remaining €1,500 for the course fund. For example, one of the things that is covered on the course is food-every teacher gets a meal a day. In a country where people survive on €1.25 a day, this meal makes a real difference to the teachers.

I know that there are so many worthy organisations out there that are all deserving of your support but if you could support me for this summer work, I would be so grateful. Any of you who know me well know that I will give it my all during these three weeks because I really believe that education is for improving the world.
