Celebrating the Life of a Hero

Donation protected
On Wednesday September 19th 2018, Aidan Armesto, the 7 year old son of Cottage Grove Firefighter/Paramedic Mike Armesto, was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Shakopee, MN for an airway obstruction. He suffered two cardiac arrests and was deprived of oxygen for an extended period of time. His care was transferred to Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis, MN.  Aidan was chemically sedated in critical condition in the Pediatric ICU. Paramedics, doctors, and nurses did everything they could for Aidan. Over the next couple of days friends and family visited Mike, Christie (Mother) and Aidan and prayed with them. On Friday and Saturday, the doctors performed tests for brain activity and everyone prayed for a miracle.  Unfortunately that miracle did not happen.

On Saturday September 22nd, 2018 at 4:53 pm, doctors pronounced Aidan Zachary Armesto dead.

In Aidan’s Father’s words, “Thousands of people from over 30 countries around the world were praying for Aidan to live, but God wanted him more”.

The Armesto family selflessly decided to give the gift of organ donation. Mike Armesto declared “Although my son’s soul is in heaven, his work on Earth is not yet done.”

On Monday, September 24th 2018, surgical teams from across the United States took organ donations from Aidan. A 9 year old boy will be receiving his heart. A 10 year old boy will receive a kidney and his liver. A 59 year old man will receive a kidney and his pancreas. Aidan is a hero to those families, along with everyone who knows and supports the Armesto family.

This amazingly strong and selfless family needs as much support as can be provided. The Cottage Grove Fire Department wants to ease the financial burden that comes with losing not only a family member, but also their only child so suddenly. Please donate to the Armesto family to support them and celebrate the life of a true hero.

If you are local and would like to donate in person, please come to the Cottage Grove Fire Department at 8641 80TH St. S, Cottage Grove, MN 55016 during normal business hours.  As a department and a city we are grieving with this tragic loss but we will not be deterred in our duty to support the family and our brother.
