<div>Hi, my name is Yessica Santos, and I’m writing this with a heart full of deep love and mourning. On June 11, 2025; I lost my dad, Orlando Santos.

<div>My father was joyful, kind, endlessly funny, and full of life. If you know me that’s where I get it from . He was always cracking jokes, finding ways to make others smile, and reminding us not to take life too seriously. I see so much of him in myself. That’s his legacy in me.

<div>My dad was in the Dominican Republic at the time. But unfortunately, he didn’t have health insurance while he was here.

</div>

<div>Earlier, he had suffered a brain hemmorage and was rushed to the ICU. As you can imagine, the medical expenses piled up quickly. In order to make sure he received the urgent care he needed. We did what any family would do, we tried everything we could to save him. We had hope.But God had other plans.

</div>

<div>Losing him has left an ache that words can’t fully capture. And in the middle of our grief, we’ve been trying to manage the overwhelming financial burden that came with his emergency care. We were able to cover his funeral costs, but the loan for the medical bills remain. I am doing my best. I’m paying the interest, but the monthly payments are more than I can afford right now.

<div>As hard as it is to ask for help, I know I can’t do this by myself. I am reaching out to my community, to friends, to strangers with kind hearts,anyone who understands the pain of loss and the stress that comes when grief is met with hardship.

<div>Mi padre era alegre, amable, infinitamente divertido y lleno de vida. Siempre estaba contando chistes, buscando maneras de hacer sonreír a los demás y recordándonos que no debíamos tomarnos la vida demasiado en serio. Veo mucho de él en mí. Ese es su legado en mí.

<div>Mi padre estaba entonces en la República Dominicana. Por desgracia, no tenía seguro médico mientras estuvo aquí.

<div>Antes, había sufrido una hemorragia cerebral y fue trasladado de urgencia a la UCI. Como pueden imaginar, los gastos médicos se acumularon rápidamente. Para asegurarme de que recibía la atención urgente que necesitaba, Hicimos lo que haría cualquier familia: intentamos por todos los medios salvarle la vida,Teníamos esperanza, pero Dios tenía otros planes.

<div>Perderle me ha dejado un dolor que no se puede expresar con palabras. . Y en medio de nuestro dolor, hemos estado intentando gestionar la abrumadora carga económica que se puso en la clínica, por su atención de urgencia. Pudimos cubrir los gastos de su funeral, pero nos queda el préstamo para las facturas médicas. Hago lo que puedo. Estoy pagando los intereses, pero los pagos mensuales son más de lo que puedo permitirme ahora mismo.
