Hello friends,
My mother, Vickie, needs some help. This is the first time we've ever had to reach out for help via a GoFundMe. Hence, why we asked for a smaller amount than most. We don't like having to ask for help, but we really do need it.
This began on August 6th, 2025. My mother was experiencing symptoms of increased blood pressure and heart rate, shaking, blurred vision, muscle jerks and lightheadedness. She immediately called the doctor and they got her an appointment the very next morning.
From that appointment, they started requesting she get some tests done. The next day, August 7th, they requested that she get an MRI the next day.
August 8th,
There is an approximately 1.6 x 1.5 x 1.4 cm nodular cystic lesion that imparts mass effect upon the left 7th and 8th cranial nerve root origin. It is slow growing and may have had it for years. It wasn’t until her symptoms (she thought were menopausal) became intense that she made an appointment with her primary physician’s nurse practitioner. By her symptoms, the nurse practitioner believed she could have been having a stroke and ordered an MRI that showed the nodular cystic lesion. Another MRI was ordered with contrast that would find the enlarged pituitary gland.
August 11th, MRI that lasted 90 minutes. The orders were made very quickly, and wasted no time. The Patient Portal, my mother looked at didn't make any sense to her, and so we waited for a phone call, which resulted in another doctor's appointment.
August 12th, My mother believed that this was all menopause-related and didn't think much of it. The nurse practitioner she saw thought she was having a stroke and immediately ordered that first MRI. The nurse practitioner said that she just had a feeling.
This was when they explained the results of her MRI's. My mother has a benign brain tumor. It's about the size of a quarter, pressing on the left side of her brain.
August 14th, Some neurologists have reached out and believe that she has a Schwannoma Tumor. Which is a tumor that develops in the nerve sheath. The most common type of benign peripheral nerve tumor in adults and can occur anywhere at any age.
These tumors are rarely cancerous but can lead to nerve damage, and loss of muscle control.
August 15th, another doctors appointment was made at a Neuroscience Center.
August 19th, The schwannoma cell tumor was found to be pressing against the nerves that affect my mothers, speech, swallowing, and hearing. Doctors also found that she has an enlarged pituitary gland, which is being monitored.
She then had a vocal cord evaluation, which everything was fine, then surgery was scheduled.
August 21st, surgery was scheduled for October 3rd.
September 3rd, The surgery date was changed to October 14th.
September 13th, after days of my mother having the same aggressive headache, she is staying home again, laying on the couch beside me with a banging headache with some fallen tears. These headaches are what we believe to be because of the tumor.
Symptoms she’s experienced:
numbness/tingling on the left side of face
ringing in left ear/hearing loss
effects speech
troubling swallowing/numbness of throat
headaches/neck pain
confusion/mood swings
Enlarged pituitary gland with optic nerve contact.
Symptoms she’s experienced:
blurred vision/eye pain
headaches
sinus pain
ear pain
nausea
Due to the aggression of these symptoms, she has had to stop working and asked that her scheduled surgery for October 14, 2025 be moved sooner. Her surgeon, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis has put her on the cancellation list. In the meantime, she waits and could use financial assistance during this time and her recovery following.
We plan on using the money for
her medical bills,
essential living
just until my mother get the release back to work.
We need your help. Anything helps, and we really appreciate anything given.
Thank you friends, and we will keep you updated as things continue.
Forever Thankful,
Dietrich W.
