<div>Hello! We are Marya E. Gates and Robert Daniels, freelance film critics living in Chicago. You may remember that last year our cat Miss Fanny Brawne had a heart attack. The good news is she is doing much better! The bad news is she has ringworm! She has also given me (Marya) ringworm. We are both on meds and should clear up in a few weeks (or maybe months for Miss Fanny), but in order to make sure we do not reinfect each other our entire apartment has to be deep cleaned. Miss Fanny also has to go back for check-ups and tests for the next few months.

<div>This is going to cost $5000 between the doctor and vet visits (roughly ~$2000 all in), the deep cleaning ($1200 for the first time, then we'll need to have her quarantine room cleaned again for about $300) and the laundry (we have to wash every single blanket, article of clothing, or anything else that Miss Fanny or I have touched in the last few weeks and until I am no longer infectious we have to launder all my sheets daily, so we're looking at ~$300 or more there), Robert has to stay in a hotel until we get the place cleaned enough for him to be in the space, and all the other expenses that are adding up. We also have to replace Miss Fanny's beloved cat tree, which cannot be cleaned properly and has to be chucked into the trash.

<div>Robert and I are both freelancers and we have taxes coming up and if you've ever worked freelance, you know that freelance taxes are incredibly high. The cost of all this treatment has wiped out all of the money I (Marya) had saved to pay my taxes. Also, as you might know I (Marya) had to stop working for a few months last year when my Dad passed away, so my  non-tax savings has also taken a hit.
