Hi everyone. My name is Kasey Ritsema. On Monday, March 31st, 2025, I had an unbelievable accident. I fell and broke both of my ankles and sprained my left knee. I went to see my orthopedic surgeon yesterday morning, April 7th, 2025. I was told my options were to have surgery to fix them or not. If I chose not to go through with the surgery, when I started to walk again on my own without the support of the orthopedic boots, every step that I took was going to feel as if I was about to fall because of the way they would heal. I definitely don't think that would be a very good quality of life, constantly feeling as if I were going to fall. As much as I was hoping to avoid surgery, I agreed to have the surgery done. They are putting plates and screws in my leg to fix my ankles on Wednesday, April 9th, 2025.

The reason I was hoping to not have to have the surgery is because I don't have any health insurance. The estimated cost of my procedure is $17,865.37. I am working with financial aid through the hospital to figure out all the details of getting this paid and taken care of.

My GoFundMe is to alleviate some of the financial strain on my husband who is financially supporting our family of 4 while I am unable to work and recovering. He's tirelessly been taking care of me and our 2 children, ages 7 and 6, and the youngest has autism, making it even more difficult.

I really don't know how we are going to get by until I am able to walk again. I drive for a living and I am uncertain at this point when I will be able to return to work.
