Help Cover Medical Bills for Franklin and Stacy
On May 10th, Franklin, our sweet 4-year-old Golden/Doberman mix, was hit by a truck and left with a devastating leg injury. Just weeks later, Stacy suffered a serious riding accident, leaving her with multiple fractures and torn muscles that require specialized treatment not covered by insurance.
Between Franklin’s emergency care and our ongoing medical bills, expenses have already climbed past $13,000 and continue to rise. This fundraiser is to help cover these overwhelming costs so both Franklin and Stacy can heal and return to the lives they love.
Our story
Franklin was struck by a pickup truck traveling around 35 mph. We rushed him to an emergency clinic where he was diagnosed with pneumothorax, lung contusions, and multiple lacerations — one of them so severe it left his carpus joint exposed down to the ligaments and tendons.
Franklin spent over 24hrs in an oxygen chamber before his breathing stabilized. Thankfully, no fractures were found, but the wound on his front leg required extensive care. With no skin or fascia left to close the area, he had to undergo repeated procedures under anesthesia so the vet could clean and bandage the wound. For nearly 10 weeks, we brought him to the surgical center multiple times a week until the injury slowly began to heal. While Franklin is improving, he still struggles with soreness and may ultimately require an MRI and possibly surgery if his limp persists.
Just as Franklin’s recovery was beginning to stabilize, tragedy struck again. On June 20th, Stacy suffered a devastating accident while working with a horse. After the horse spooked, she was pitched forward off to the left side and landed hard on packed crushed concrete stone. The pain was so severe she could not call for help for several minutes.
An MRI later revealed three sacral fractures in an “H” pattern, along with severe tears in both glutes and hamstrings — the right side nearly a complete tear. Doctors have recommended platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatment as the best chance to avoid major surgery, but unfortunately, this treatment is not covered by insurance. Stacy is also facing months of physical therapy and is currently unable to ride.
The financial burden of these back-to-back emergencies has been overwhelming. Franklin’s care has already cost over $7,000, while Stacy's medical expenses and care, have climbed well past $6,000 and continue to rise. Between ongoing treatments, copays, and the recommended PRP injections, our out-of-pocket costs alone are expected to exceed $15,000.
As a small business owner without workers’ compensation, Stacy is left struggling to cover these unexpected expenses while trying to ensure both she and Franklin receive the care needed to heal.
