Aid for Syrian Refugees, Beqaa, Lebanon

Donation protected
Over 1.5 million Syrian refugees are living in Lebanon in extreme poverty inside makeshift camps.  Half of this number are children; many are orphans living without family.  These displaced Syrians had to leave everything behind when the conflict destroyed their homes and are now trying to survive in incredibly tough conditions with little food, shelter or access to basic medicines.

In June a group of students from Sheffield Hallam University will be travelling to Lebanon bringing supplies, accompanying Save the Children on their humanitarian aid work and aiming to raise awareness globally about the plight of refugees through making a series of films.

Please could you support our mission to bring with us the following desperately needed items into some of the camps in Beqaa Valley:

Fresh fruit and vegetables
Baby formula (lack of nourishment means many mums are unable to breastfeed)
Dried food items (e.g. rice and flour)
School bags for kids (stationery, exercise books)
Pop up classroom kit (storage boxes with e.g. flip chart, paper, markers, pens, books)
Sanitary towels
Nappies
Torches
Few items of sports equipment (e.g. footballs, cricket kits)

We will be posting regular reports about our trip online so you’ll be able to find out how your gifts have helped families; on our return we hope to screen our films via UK broadcasters and film festivals around the world.  The films will focus on displacement, belonging and life in the camps.  The aim is to give Syrian refugees a voice through collaborating creatively with the students on documentaries and a factual drama.  We hope our films will raise discussion about what’s now needed longer term to make a difference.

We will withdraw the funds on 17th May so please donate before then if you can. Every penny will make a difference – no amount is too small.   We will also continue to deliver needed items to Beqaa Valley camps with any donations received after this date.

Thank you so much for your generosity!

(Flights, accommodation and our meals for the trip are being covered by Sheffield Hallam University).
