Aid for Ambae Evacuation Victims

On the 25th of September the evacuation of the people of Ambae began, due to the escalating threat of the volcano - Manaro’s eruption. Over 11500 people from the very old to the very young have been forced to leave their homes and livelihoods. Scared uncertain and with no time line given for their return. With heavy hearts and very few belongings they have been evacuated to Santo, Maewo, Pentecost, Malekula and Efate islands although safe from danger these people are displaced and in many cases in need of the basics.
Santo has become the makeshift home for over 5700 evacuees living in evacuation centres comprising of community centres and churches. With no short term solution these dwellings are becoming increasingly overcrowded and lacking basic amenities such as adequate toilets and sanitary blocks.
Open the Door Foundation hopes to raise enough money to provide enough of these basic amenities to alleviate some of the pressure and make these shelters habitable in the interim. To be built then used by these people this little project hopes to make a big difference. Any extra money will be donated directly to the Manaro disaster committee and their efforts.
This is only one of the many challenges these people will have to face in the coming days weeks and perhaps months. But with your support it is achievable and would be one less obstacle in these people’s lives.
