Hi, my name is Christopher Birotte and I graduated from Lynn English High School in 2012. I am a Health Sciences major and have just finished my second year at Franklin Pierce University with a 3.4 GPA. I aspire to one day be a physical therapist and this was brought upon by my career in running.
I discovered my passion for running when I was in the 8th grade. Since then, I have been a dedicated long-distance runner in both Cross Country and Track & Field teams. Due to my rigorous training, I have suffered my fair share of running-related injuries. As a result, I have spent a lot of time in and out of physical therapy clinics. This gave me firsthand exposure to the field of physical therapy and made me realize how much I would enjoy pursuing a career as a physical therapist.
Though education has always been a priority in my life, staying in school has not been an easy task, especially financially. During the fall of my sophomore year of high school, I noticed my mother’s behavioral patterns changing. However, it wasn’t until the beginning of my senior year that the doctors discovered a tumor the size of a fist in her brain. Though she managed to pull through her surgery and is now able to walk and talk again, she is no longer able to work. Since she is a single mother, her medical complications have left my brother and me to provide for ourselves.
I am currently living with my aunt. Having someone provide me with a place to stay was an incredible relief. Nevertheless, I am left with the burden of all other expenses including food, clothing, and (of course) my education. My financial independence left me with no choice but to work several different jobs in an attempt to make ends meet. Therefore, I have relied heavily on scholarships, grants, and loans to get me through my first two years of school. I have already started monthly payments on one of my loans.
I have struggled to pay for school every semester, but this upcoming fall semester will be exceptionally difficult because I was relying on $4,000 scholarship that I ended up not receiving. I am now $5,288 in the hole and I have no meal plan. It would cost me an extra $1,200 to incorporate a meal plan that would give me five meals a week.
Now that I have exhausted every other option (jobs, loans, grants, etc) I’m reaching out to friends and family for help. Anybody who knows me can tell you that I am a dedicated athlete and a hard working student. Dropping out is not an option. Some people have told me to transfer but my tireless efforts have gotten me halfway through my journey at Franklin Pierce and I am determined to make it through. Every dollar raised will go directly towards paying for school.
To verify that I am deserving of your support I have attached a letter of recommendation from my coach. I would like to thank you all in advance; your generosity is greatly appreciated. Every dollar brings me one step closer to reaching my goal and keeping me in school. Feel free to come to me with any questions you may have. Once again, I am extremely grateful for any help.
