Fire Recovery for the Locey Family

Donation protected
On the morning of June 19, 2014, after she left for work, our friend, rescuer, volunteer, foster mom, photographer and part of our Louie's Legacy family got the horrible news once she got to her office that her home had caught fire.  She and her husband, who was away on business, are OK, but the loss of her three cats Geraldine, Wilson and Sabrina, and three of her dogs, all Louie's pups, Buttercup, Jethro and sweet Peanut Butter has devistated her family.  Lucy, sister of Buttercup survived and at this time is still receiving care at MedVet in Cincinnati.  We would like to thank the Canine Justice Network for immediately coming forward and offering to shoulder Lucy's bill in light of the tragedy the family suffered.

Returning to their home, it was determined that a faulty wire to a recliner in the family room caused the fire.  Though my understanding is that the house is structurally sound, the inside is currently uninhabitable.  They have been told it will likely be 6-8 months before their home is restored.  Most devastatingly, they have lost precious pieces of family history and the furbabies they cherished so much.  Anyone who knows Carol knows her pets were everything to her, and Dan especially took to his little Beagle boy Jethro.  All are so deeply missed it is beyond comprehension.

In response to many requests about how people across the country could help, we have put together this page for carol.  Though Louie's Legacy is administering it, funds do NOT go to the rescue.  They will go to the Locey family to help them cover the many expenses that come along with laying 6 beloved pets to rest and suddenly finding oneself homeless.  The goal set was arbitrary because this website insisted we have one.  It might change as the family's needs are better determined.

Carol and Dan have been a gift to Louie's Legacy and we can honestly say that we would not be the same rescue without them.  Carol donates countless hours almost weekly to photographing and editing photos of our beatiful rescued pets, unlocking in them the soul that some bury inside after all they have been through.  She is the gentle voice and loving spirit who draws out their smiles and wags so we can put their best paw forwad in finding a loving forever home.  Carol has also fosterd many, helped plan and coordinate fundraisers, transported and helps at adoption events.

Our hearts are broken for them, because we know and love Carol and Dan, because we know and love and have cared for her beloved pets, and because it could have easily happened to anyone.  She and her family are truly some of our own, and we hope in their time of need, you will consider making a contribution to go directly to any of their needs.
