Bismillahirahmaniraheem (In the Name of Allah, The Most Generous, The Especially Merciful)

Dear friends, respected brothers and sisters I sincerely hope that this article reaches you in the best of health and eman (faith). May the peace, blessings and mercy of Allah be with you: Asalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wabarakatuh.

After you have read the rest of this article, I would like you to reflect, contemplate about a couple of things. Ask yourself - what would you ask Allah and what would you do and request others to do for you if you were in such a situation? May Allah protect us.

I received a call from the Headteacher of the children’s Madrassa (Place of Learning/School) at the Islamic Integration Cultural and Community Centre, Hounslow, west London yesterday evening. He told me that a well known and respected namazy/musally (regular attender of the congregational Islamic prayer) at the mosque was sick and he urgently needed our help. The brother is in his thirties had unfortunately been diagnosed with a rare type of cancer. He requested me to meet him with a view of widening the fundraising appeal for his cancer treatment the sake of Allah Rabbial alameen, Lord of Mankind, Jinn and all that exists.

Currently aged 37, brother Ahmed Hassan is married and lives with his wife (who stopped working and is now his full time carer. 'She carries me with the strength of ten men' says Ahmed describing his wife's dedication) and his healthy and handsome young stepson.  May Allah grant him shifaa and make it easy for all of them.

MashaAllah, an IT professional born in Cairo, Egypt, active in the field of dawah (conveying the message of Islam to non muslims) across London, being part of the iERA dawah team alhamdulillah helping to give the shahadatyn of ashhadu an laa illaha ilAllah, wa ash hadu anna Muhammadin, salAllahu alayhiwasalam, abduhu wa rasuluh (twin declarations of faith: I testify that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah and I testify that Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, is his slave and messenger)  to at least 17 people at the London Olympic Games and several others since then.

Generally in good health and a non-smoker, brother Ahmad resenting to the doctors with pain in his torso and shoulder area, he was misdiagnosed with a virus and muscle spasm since the last 12 months. Meanwhile the cancer, a rare type affecting the lining of the lungs, was starting establish itself. Ahmed has lost a lot of weight since the diagnosis. He has been in contact with to at least 6 different major hospital across England during this very difficult and testing time for him and his family.

Not wanting to give up, and with the permission of Allah, The All Knowing, Ahmed's research disclosed  a clinic in Houston, Texas, called The Burzinsky Clinic. The founder Dr Stanislaw Burzinksy has been pioneering and trailing an alternative chemotherapy-free therapy with apparent higher success rates for certain types of difficult to treat cancers, including the type being suffered by brother Ahmed.

In the patient's group website, Ahmed found an American lady patient with his specific type of lung cancer who had been treated successfully with Dr Burzinsky’s patented ‘antineoplaston’ treatment and survives to this day cancer free. All thanks and praise belong to Allah. The lady cancer survivor also knows 5 other patients with a similar diagnosis who had been successfully treated by the Burzinsky clinic.

The main aspect of the antineoplaston therapy consists of introducing proteins found in high levels in cancer free people, perhaps the likes of me and you who if we are healthy and cancer free is due to the mercy of Allah. Dr Burzinsky found that these proteins or peptides were found in low levels in cancer sufferers and the clinical trials in Houston, Texas have been exploring whether these antineoplastons, a form of targeted therapy (of which there are over 25 licensed currently in the USA) which may cause cancer suppressing genes in the body to be activated and the cancer causing genes or ‘oncogenes’ to be deactivated. The data from the trials suggest more favourable survival rates with antineoplaston therapy for certain types of inoperable cancer as opposed to the combination chemotherapy and radiotherapy which have serious side effects and affect the quality of life during and after their use, whether they resolve the condition or not. Of course not types of cancer patients make it, and we must accept that the permission for life to continue, healing and recovery - be it from cancer or any other disease comes from Allah alone. However, as the survivors demonstrate, it is important to have hope and we as part of the ummah of Muhammad (salallahu alayhi wasalam, peace be upon him) have faith that Allah is capable of all things. Particularly for cancer patients it is especially important to remain strong and hold onto hope and the rope of Allah inshaAllah.

We can help people in many ways - be they our brother and sisters in faith, our neighbours or our family in humanity. Reflect, O reader, on the greatness of Allah Al Hamid The Praiseworthy. Say ‘alhamdulillah’ in your heart and with the tongue that Allah has blessed you with the gift of remembering Him, for being able to help others and for your ‘aqel’ or intelligent mind to inspire others to also support our efforts for the causes which please The One  and only deity who is worthy of our devotion and worship. For not all of us are blessed with the means to do so.

Unfortunately, even many of the people we see in the UK are not blessed with guidance, and as respected brother Ahmed Hassan has done and continues to do to this day, spread the message of Islam even if only one verse, as our beloved Prophet salallahu alayhi wasalam advised us.

The treatment with the Burzinsky doctors may take several months. Overall the cost to fly brother Ahmed Hassan and to receive the treatment is £40,000. The majority of the total amount is the patient fees, which please bear in mind supports the cancer research effort over there as well as the doctor’s, nurses and support staff’s salaries as well medicines, and the patient’s day to day living expenses. The question is not whether there is enough money in our collective pockets or mashaAllah the pockets of some very wealthy individuals, but rather what would YOU do and want done on your behalf if you were suffering with a rare cancer of the lungs, misdiagnosed a year ago, given no hope and living with severe pain while trying to manage a young family?

SubhanAllah, whether you make dua alone, climb the mountains or swim the seas or anything else halal to raise funds and awareness of this important cause, start with bismillahirahmaniraheem and with a sincere intention and the ajir or reward will be with Allah subhana wa taala The Glorious and The Most High. May each penny and pound you raise or help raise with ikhlaas (sincerity) bring you a step and a yard closer to the gates of Jannah. Ameen.

Thus far and upon the completion of the upcoming week, we will have raised close to £15,000 alhamdulillah. Therefore, £25,000 remains to be raised for the sake of Allah and inshaAlllah offer life saving treatment for our respected brother Ahmed Hassan. Jazakumullah khayran may the reward of Allah be with you. Ameen
