Fundraiser for Ahmed Hussein's legacy

Asalamu alaikum/ may peace be upon you all,

It is with a heavy heart that I am fundraising for the death of Ahmed Hussein Bashir, may Allah have mercy on him. Ahmed was a kind and generous man. You would always feel a sense of joy in his presence as he would never fail to make you laugh. He was a police officer in his prime and retired early due to ill health.  He suffered with severe mental illness for over 20 years and this ultimately led to his tragic death. He sadly left behind three beautiful children.

Ahmed was loved by his family and we don't want his death to be in vain. In Islam, we believe that after one dies, there are good deeds/ rewards that continue (sadaqah jariyah). The prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said that"when a person dies, his deeds come to an end, except for three: ongoing charity, knowledge that is benefited from, and a righteous child who prays for him.” (Sahih Muslim).

Therefore, the main goals of this fundraiser are to firstly raise money for his children. All three currently attend mainstream school and also Quran classes; with his daughter recently a Hafiz (someone who has memorised the Quran) at the age of 11.  Part of the money raised would pay for their schooling to support them to continue with their education in the coming years.

Secondly, given the circumstances of his death, we will be donating this money to a mental health charity in Kenya where he lived. Mental health disorders are prevalent in Kenya, but there is still very little awareness and support for those afflicted. Many families of sufferers withhold medical treatment and instead lock up their loved ones at home, convinced they are doing what is best for them. Although this wasn't the case with Ahmed, it is unfortunately the reality for countless others. 

My uncle was an incredible man and I hope that he can reap the rewards from this fundraiser to make his time in the grave and the hereafter easy. You would also be positively impacting the lives of many others.  Ahmed's sister, Safiya, and myself (her daughter) will be in charge of the funds.
