Emergency moving expenses
Donation protected
Never in a million years did we think we would need to ask for help. Normally we are the ones donating.
November 2019 rocked our family's world . We rent the lower unit of a duplex. New renters moved in. From that start, its has been nothing but issues. First incident? Finding a loaded gun magazine on our front porch. They dropped it moving in, with their three toddlers.
After this, they moved in until 3 am four nights in a row. We went up there talked to them, texted, called with zero change. This began the sleep deprivation.
Hours every night, screaming kids, running, bouncing balls. We constantly asked them to knock it off, and no change.
Then the junk. Broken down car on two flat tires, with plates expired
for over a year. Piling the yard and our front porch with their belongings. We couldnt see out our living room window. We left notes for a week, never moved. We had to move it.
Breeding dogs. Yup, two breeding pitbulls with 14 (yes FOURTEEN) puppies kennels directly above our bedroom.
They have repeated flooded our half of the basement with the illegal washer& dryer hookup, damaging our possessions .
Drug deals countless times a day in front of our home and in the driveway. Throwing the paraphernalia all over the lawn and porch.
Garbage piled for weeks along the side of the building causing the rat population to explode. Our dog was bitten on the face in the middle of the day on our porch.
All of this done in front of Andrew's 16 year old daughter. She is an honor student at the best all girls' private school. Plays sports. Has an internship learning how to build motorcycles. Works a part time job. And is aspiring to become a mechanical engineer. Would you want this for your child?
And you may ask what does the landlord think? Well, crickets from him. We notified him of every lease violation. Every time we called police for the noise. The rats. Garbage. Property damage. So we had to take the matters higher.
We called the Department of Neighborhood Services. The Community Liason at the police department. The Alderman. And what did we get? An eviction notice. Yes! The tenants that are never late in paying rent in the 16 months we have lived here. Never an issue. We maintain the property, shovel snow, cleaned up the yard. But we have 28 days to move our family in the dead of winter because of a landlord that wont manage his tenants. We did everything right, and are being victimized in a retaliation eviction.
We were planning on staying here until Andrew's daughter graduated high school in 2021. We were planning our wedding, and had used savings to place nonrefundable deposits. One of our vehicles cost $3000 to repair (still in the shop as of 1/28/20). We were saving small amounts to use as a down payment for a home, in 2021. We don't live above our means. Aimee can only work part time due to chronic extensive health issues. Andrew works in the construction industry with winter being his slow season. This is truly unexpected and at the worst possible time.
While we are receiving advice from government agencies and politicians to buy us time, we need to get into a safe, peaceful and quiet place. Also we need a reserve for possible legal action to recover our security deposit.
With the deepest humility and broken spirits, we are asking for help. We need to come up with security deposits, moving truck, supplies and a storage unit asap. We have no idea what it really will cost, so we are truly guessing.
I will need to edit the documents marking off identifiable information. But I want people to see we are real and this is happening . We have been in contact with a news station and will post updated info on when our story will air. I will also add videos of the damage to our property, and the junk we have had to live with.
